It's a plus when a point guard can score. BNM made it sound as if Miller never made the All-Star game because he wasn't a better scorer. Big market? Really?
I think that's a reasonable belief. Scoring, while important, is generally overvalued by pretty much everyone. Not just by fans. I think Dave Berri at Wages of Wins (while I often disagree with him on various ideas/evaluations) has made a pretty compelling case that NBA salaries are tied disproportionately to PPG output, rather than overall efficiency.
No I didn't. You took one sentence fragment out of context and jumped to an erroneous conclusion. The complete paragraph was: "Obviously, I'm an Andre Miller supporter, but he has never averaged more than 17 PPG in his career. That hurts his chances of being all all-star right there. It pretty much rules him out in the fan voting - that plus playing on some bad teams in small markets. I didn't say it made it impossible to make an all-star team. But, unspectacular scoring hurts in the fan voting and when combined with a losing record and and a small market, greatly reduces the chances of making an all-star team. Yes, actually it is. It's part of the much larger NYC metropolitan area market. BNM
I loved the 97 & 98 Jazz teams. They were totally robbed in 98: In the second quarter, Howard Eisley hit a 35 foot three pointer. It was clearly before the shot clock buzzer but it was waived off. Then, in the 4th quarter, Ron Harper hit a two point shot that was CLEARLY after the shot clock buzzer, but the refs counted it. Finally, in the Bulls' last position, Jordan fouled Russell and then traveled before hitting the game winner. Fucking bullshit of a game. I'm still waiting for Game 7 of that series.
I hated the Jazz. They were one of the dirtiest teams in league history. I took great joy in beating them in the playoffs, and I enjoyed watching the Bulls destroy their dreams two years in a row.
Wait...what? I could swear that Rod made the All-Star team after we traded him to Washington for Rasheed. I mean dude was a league leader in assists for Washington. Ok, looking it up now....... Shit! He never made the All-Star team. How did that happen? But, catch this - must be what I was remembering - Rod was named 2nd Team All-NBA for 97-98 season. How the hell does that happen? The coaches must have really hated Rod. http://www.basketball-reference.com/players/s/stricro02.html
Looks like Billups or Ellis will be in now that Paul is out. http://sports.espn.go.com/nba/news/story?id=4875956
How about until this year, Derron Williams has been on the Olympic Team, but could never crack the all-star team.
