Blazers guard Jerryd Bayless, who was on the perimeter of the huddle, said he saw the whole event transpire. “They were drunk, obviously,’’ Bayless said. “I was actually close to Rudy, but when I saw them coming, and once they got onto the court, I stepped back.’’ whats up with that Bayless?
Nice for Rudy to know who DOESN'T have his back. I have a friend like that. Once in our teens when I was attacked by 2 older guys he ran to the other side of the park and rooted for me from a position of safety.
If that would have happened to Shawn Kemp he would have had both of those women pregnant before the team left for the airport.
I think Bayless had the smarts to realize that a couple of tipsy women saying "I love you" and hugging Rudy were not a threat. But the points in the article hold. It shows how misdirected "security" is. Something I know tons about, having had my cakes declared a terrorist threat (all they threaten is cholesterol levels). So called "security" gets loony about innocent things, including a coach needing to take a leak, but a player gets grabbed - yes, no harm in this case but what if it were some nativist who hates foreign players? Some racist? Whatever?
Remember about 6 or 7 seasons ago a guy dressed like a chef or cook walk right buy security during a time out onto the court and took off his apron that had something written on it about the war in Iraq! I couldn't believe he got all the way out there!
Paul Allen should add a sniper to the travel crew so our team would be safe from such frightening attacks! Shoot on sight all tipsy women who love Rudy!
