As a GM I'd say Danny Ainge has been decent GM, he really knows how to evaluate talent and draft young players, every draft pick he's made has been somewhat talented. Off-season transactions are definately a different story. He's made some stupid ass trades and signings that have made no sense. He traded away Antoine Walker and got two second rounders, Qyntel Woods, Curtis Borchardt, and the draft rights to Albert Miralles, Woods and Borchardt were cut and I don't see Miralles coming here at all. Then he traded away one of those 2nd rounders to the Hornets for Dan Dickau, who played 17 games of horrible basketball and he's been injured the whole season. I don't even want to get into the Brian Scalabrine signing, that was by far the worst off-season transaction in the NBA. A lot of people argue it was Jerome James, it's definately close but I'd say Scalabrine is worse. James may be overweight but atleast hes tall, he could lose weight and be productive. Scalabrine just sucks. Period. Anyway, what about Danny as a coach? He took a Phoenix team that was having tons of problems in 1997 that started off 0-8 and he lead them to a 40-34 record after head coach Cotton Fitzsimmons was fired. He went 136-70 in his total tenure over four seasons with the Phoenix Suns. He seemed like he was doing an incredible job as coach in Phoenix so what about him coaching Boston? I'd still like to see Doc get another season under his belt but if things don't work out with the Doc I think it would be interesting to see Danny Ainge coach the Celtics.

I don't know what to think about this coaching situation anymore. I mean Doc is a great teacher and a great guy, but it's his in-game decisions that get people. But if Doc is in fact on his way out (don't think so) then this could be like a Pat Riley situation for Danny. "You put this team together and brought in this young talent, let's see how you handle it." It would be incredibly interesting to say the least but I just don't see it happening. I think Doc will stay for at least 1 more year.

I agree. I think that Doc has atleast one more year as coach. But I would not be suprised in the least bit to see Ainge coach this team in the near to distant future.

i would personally like to see ainge coaching the Cs. He had his own image of the team when he got these players, he could put that in to use with his coaching. He's a very smart guy. He knows the strengths and weaknesses of these guys better than Doc, and i'm guessing he could put together a more effective game plan. He knew what the team needed, including a defenseive identity. maybe he could provide that.

He knows what he wants to acomplish so who better to run the show?

If Danny was coach, I'd probably kill myself. I'm not crazy about some of the personnel moves hes made. But as for drafting, the guy is a god. He needs to stick to the front office.

This is an extremely interesting and very realistic idea. Wouldn't it make sense that Doc was hired to teach and motivate the young guys so that they develop, and when they reach the time for a breakout season Ainge steps in and leads them through (in two years)? If Ainge was that good in Phoenix but now he has a team he's built himself!!! This could be great, and I actually think this could happen. No ones sure about the coach in 2 years...maybe he's been with the organizaiton the whole time! As long as he has like...15000 advisers for FA signings...

He was a great coach in Phoenix... he's drafted this talent and he recognizes good talent, coaching would allow him to take what he envisions with these guys and make it all work. A lot of people are questioning Doc, I love the guy, he's a class act and he's definately passionate about his teams. I just don't know about his in-game coaching decisions and things of that sort. Also to his defense, he's dealt with a lot of trades and roster changes/young injuries...he's pretty much never had a consistent rotation. It might just happen that our stint with Doc didn't work out...if Ainge took over I wouldn't be upset at all.
