It looks like the Wizards are also asking teams who want Butler to take Deshawn Stevenson off their hands as part of the deal...that dude is a total tool.

Obviously, (McGrady to NY)/(Butler&Haywood to HOU)/ (Harrington + picks/cash to WAS) doesn't work with the CBA.

It doesn't work if you send Curry to WAS as well.

What DOES work is NYK sending Harrington (expiring), Jeffries (warm body with only 1.5 years left on contract) and Gallinari or Hill (young lotto-pick 4's). I don't see that being enough for WAS (NYK doesn't have their draft pick, and HOU's will be mid-1st barring a lotto miracle), especially since they wanted Rudy AND Batum for JUST Haywood. But I could see why HOU and NYK would do this.

I really, really hope you are right but I don't see much evidence to support this claim.

Here's a trade axiom: If it's public, it's likely dead.

Does adding Butler and Haywood make us a contender? Hard to say.

    Miller/Bayless
    Roy/Webster
    Butler/Batum
    LMA/Pender
    Haywood/Howard

I don't know... still have a ton of talent at the guard and wing, but very little in the front court. And then what? We let Haywood leave after this season? I'd rather include Joel and have Haywood play backup.

I guess my question is, does it have to make us a contender, or just take a step towards it? Right now, Portland is barely even in the playoffs, let alone considered a contender. So I would say contender? No. But will it ensure a step forward and probably a playoff birth? Yes.

Right now Portland has no number 2 scorer on the team to team with Roy. This would take a stab at addressing that. Nothing is guaranteed, except that the team will continue as is, if nothing is done.

As for Haywood, half of the beuty of this trade is the fact that if it doesn't work out, he is done at the end of the year. The downside is, if it works out, he is done at the end of the year and would require effort and money to keep.

David Aldridge mentioned on NBA TV last night that the Blazers were one of 3 teams in conversation about Butler. I'm still holding out hope, but we don't have a good track record of deadline deals obviously.

Going after Butler would have two benefits. It would help our anemic offense and block the Rockets from getting much better.

But, we can't give up Rudy he makes the ladies' panties wet, and Martell is still so young, and Jerryd is really intense and Steve scraps, and Outlaw is Roy's best friend and ... nope, no trades to be made here.

Let's face it, KP is less likely to horn in on this deal and get a player than I am to go out and win the lottery ... and I don't play the lottery.

You'll have to make it 9 days to take it to the deadline, but that's pretty much what I'm saying. The situation this year is far different than in the past. Beating the "KP won't make a midseason trade" dead horse before we see whether he actually makes a trade seems kind of dumb, to me.

Hopefully for another guy who shoots nowt but 17 foot jumpers.

Pippen might be a stretch, but Nic is the only player I see on this roster besides Brandon and Greg that has actual all-star potential.
