The New York [strike]Cosmos[/strike] Red Bulls are being linked with legends of recent footballing history. First there has been a long standing rumor that Thierry Henry will be joining NYRB. The original date was this season to line up with the opening of Red Bull Park in suburban New Jersey. The New York Post, as recently as June, has Henry arriving on a free after his Barca contract expires in 2011. The source in this case is Henry himself, which would qualify as a fairly reliable one, though it appears he was just being agreeable for the local media here. Then there was a rumor that Paolo Maldini had signed a one year deal with NYRB from an Italian web site, though MLS and the club were quick to say it was just a rumor, according to another post report. It appears that the club isn't ruling it out, which seems to indicate that Maldini could be making a return to competitive football on this side of the Atlantic. And today, Marca and Soccernet are reporting that Raul is leaving Real Madrid for New York at seasons end. After all, why get service from Kaka and Ronaldo when you could be trying to reign in passes from Sinisa Ubiparipovic and Danleigh Borman? Could be fun times as it looks like Red Bull are lining up legends to line up with Juan Pablo Angel up front. Both can get some interesting advice, as Raul would be following the path of David Beckham, while Thierry Henry can call on Youri Djorkaeff who played for a season and a half with the Red Bulls.
