<div class='quotetop'>QUOTE </div><div class='quotemain'>Daniels practices, is ready for second round: Marquis Daniels, who missed Monday's game because of a hip injury, practiced for the second consecutive day. He said he felt fine during the scrimmage and said he's ready to participate in Game 1 of the next series. "I'm ready to get back at this," he said. "The rest is good for my hip and my leg. I felt pretty good throughout the scrimmage."Keith Van Horn, out since March 31 with a broken hand, worked out with a basketball Thursday and could be ready for full practices next week.</div> LinkI think we can all agree this is a good thing. If you watched any of the Maverick games against the Grizzlies, you can tell Avery really doesnt trust Powell in big minutes. He didnt do so hot in his minutes either. In the 4 games played against Memphis, he played 14 minutes in 2 games. Didnt get a rebound, assist, steal, block, or point in either. Shot 0-1 from the field and had 1 turnover. I think its a good thing that KVH could be able to play against the Spurs or Kings for at least part of the series. Adds playoff depth and a better shooter and player to back up Dirk. This may also let Dirk get more of a rest in games because Avery probably trusts KVH more than Powell. KVH's career playoff averages-40-3PT%, 40-FG%, 11.4 ppg, 6.8 rpg, 1.6 apg.I think that helps big time when as a team the Mavs only shot 35% from 3 point range. I think we are all overlooking this stat. Both Terry and Stack are shooting around 25% behind the arc. Dirk is shooting 42 and Howard is shooting 50%. I'm not really sure if Howard's shot is for real, or if he's just been lucky this series. That's why i'm some what worried about 3point %. San Antonio is averaging 6.5 3 pointers made per game compared to the Mavericks 5. The Spurs are also shooting 42% from behind the arc.

At the end of the season when he was getting minutes he was doing fairly well. Now he is just choking a little, next year he should be fine.As for Van Horn, he needs to get back, last year he helped alot and this year he could be crucial with his 3 shot. I hope he can return although he won't be the same with that broken hand. Daniels also need to return, he has his games once in a while and with him coming off the bench, he does some damage.
Good Van Horn will be coming back whenever. Having Powell to back up Dirk if any bad situation comes up is a big risk. Van Horn can do the better job. Especially if Mavs are going to play a team like Spurs in the second round. As for Daniels, all I have to say is lets see if he get injuried agian.Headsup, this topic will bring alot of sh*t. Mavsfan posting on this board and having the words Keith Van Horn in it...yea, you all should understand
Funny how you mentioned sh*t and it is a topic about Van Horn. They kinda go together. lol. I hope Van Choke doesn't cost us any games.
Dirk shouldn't get suspended...he needs to be careful though. And we'll need all our guys healthy to have a chance to beat the Spurs and win the Title.KVH is a MUCH better option at backup PF than Powell...Mavsfan, I can't see how you could think otherwise.
At least you know Powell won't be given a chance to choke. Van Horn will demand touches when he is in the game and that is why I would rather have Powell. No shots=No chance to choke.
He can choke defensively, so I don't know what you mean by no shots = no choke. Just stupid logic. Also, that's the problem right there when you don't even want him touching the ball, with him paired with weak offensive centers. We get zero offense out of the bigs then. If Powell wants to stay in the rotation, he's got to improve his shot. We don't have a offseason for that, so Van Horn should get the role. We've already discussed this, no need to do it again.
Harris, Daniels, and Stackhouse? That's where we get our offense from off the bench. We don't need to go inside and if we did I wouldn't mind Dampier posting up occassionally. Powell does not play bad defense and Van Horn does. Powell might not get big stats but his prescence in the interior is stronger than Van Horn. Teams are ready to attack the paint when they see Van Horn.

There will be zero focus on him and that puts pressure on the other players on the court. Like Griff, he has to make that jumper. <div class='quotetop'>QUOTE </div><div class='quotemain'>Powell does not play bad defense and Van Horn does.</div> This is so laughable, you've seen enough of Powell to think he plays good enough defense? His d is sub-par at best. He plays a little better defense then Van Horn, big freaken deal. Van Horn hustles when he's on the court, he doesn't slack, that to me is ok enough. The thing is neither's defense can stop anyone, so it's redundant to even mention it. <div class='quotetop'>QUOTE </div><div class='quotemain'>Powell might not get big stats but his prescence in the interior is stronger than Van Horn. Teams are ready to attack the paint when they see Van Horn.</div> Van Horn is a capable scorer downlow. And when did Van Horn have to get big stats. I'm pretty sure Van Horn can go out there and contribute in his minutes just as much as Powell can. And with your last statement, teams should be as hungry with Powell in there. A rookie no name downlow, that calls for players to take advantage. Bottom line, were not going to lose because of Van Horn or Powell. If we lose, it's because the team lost. I don't care who Avery plays, I think Van Horn will be the one getting minutes over Powell and I'm fine with that.
Powell is much stronger than Van Horn. That is one thing he can do is guard the interior. Van Horn can't. That is why teams put him at SF since he is unable to guard the interior. You need to have 2 players that can guard the interior. The PF and C and putting Van Horn at either position is weakness in Dallas's defense. The spurs will definitely make Dallas pay with Parker and Ginobili with Van Horn out there. Look what they did to Brad Miller. We don't need softies in the interior.

I like that combo better then Powell and Dampier. And please, Powell can guard the interior? I'm sorry but he's not a defensive force from what I've seen. I don't get why your making Powell out to be some kind of defensive force, when he's not. Van Horn and Powell's defense are not miles apart, and with just coming in to backup Dirk, I don't see the problem. Brad Miller started, Van Horn will not play the minutes he did. And if he let's layups slide in, Avery will bench him.
Powell also picks up a lot of tacky little stupid fouls compared to KVH. Powell averages 1.4 fouls in 11 minutes. Van Horn averages 2.3 in 20 minutes. The difference is that Van Horn's fouls are good hard fouls while Powell's are just stupid. Plus Van Horn spreads the defense. <div class='quotetop'>QUOTE </div><div class='quotemain'>Harris, Daniels, and Stackhouse? That's where we get our offense from off the bench. Stackhouse-27%, Daniels-21%, and Harris-23% compared to to KVH's 36%. Got to have 3 point shooting off the bench.
I don't look up stats but everytime Powell comes in the game the opponents find it very hard to score. Is it a coincidence or is Powell the reason?<div class='quotetop'>QUOTE (pjcolpitts @ May 6 2006, 11:16 PM) <{POST_SNAPBACK}></div><div class='quotemain'>Powell also picks up a lot of tacky little stupid fouls compared to KVH. Harris can break out the fastbreak game and slashing. Plus I don't expect them all out at the same. I see at least one of the big 3 to be out there.
<div class='quotetop'>QUOTE </div><div class='quotemain'>I don't look up stats but everytime Powell comes in the game the opponents find it very hard to score. The kings are loaded with offense and it didn't get them that far.</div> We'll need both to beat the Spurs. And no offense, but Kings did get pretty far by taking the Spurs 6 games. Who was thinking they would do that? I like having a offense/defensive combo at bigs, like Dirk/Diop, Van Horn/Damp. With Powell/Damp, you got two liablities on offense who Spurs will force to make shots, and I would be worried when it comes to those two having to carry some offensive load. Scoring droughts were ok against the Grizz, their not a offensive team, but I doubt we will win if we go on some of those droughts against the Spurs. Our defense is not there yet, and I doubt Powell the defensive monster given the name by Mavsfan will stop them.
Dirk is not a bad defensive player anymore. Van Horn is. When Dirk is out of the game I don't want to see the spurs get a whole bunch of points off of penetration and Duncan. I might even prefer Mbenga at power forward against the big spurs frontline if they choose to go that way when Dirk is out of the game.

He helps well but he's by far not a good defender, a improved one yes. Still my point is he's offensive to Diop's defense, just like Van would provide Damp. Just like Dirk, Van Horn is a decent help defender, but not great one on one. And excuse me but why would Duncan be in when Van Horn is off the bench? None of the bigs scare me off the bench for the Spurs that would make me worry about Van Horn's d. And if Duncan were in the same time, I'm pretty sure Damp or Diop would take him not Van Horn. Your worries make me laugh. I love how you bicker about Stack and Van Horn too. But I don't hear a peep about anyone else. If you were equal with your negative comments, I would have no problem. But no, you only focus on two individuals.
I would complain more about other players. I was complaining about Dampier last year to go with Van Horn and Stackhouse but this year he is better.
<div class='quotetop'>QUOTE </div><div class='quotemain'>I would complain more about other players. "Some of the fans are fair weather," Dampier said. "When you're rolling and playing good, they're on your bandwagon. When you're having a bad game, or two or three bad games, everybody says, 'Who is that guy? We don't like him any more.'"You take the good with the good and the bad with the bad." :HAHAHA:
Look Mavsfan...to beat the Spurs we'll need the most talented players on the court. That's while you'll see Harris out there instead of DA, and you'll see KVH(if healthy) more than Powell. The talent outweights all other things, especially against the Spurs. No way Powell would be more helpful than KVH.At worst we lose because the team lost, like someone says before. At best, KVH hits some good shots, and gives us another offensive threat down low.
