I agree with you. It's been a problem with Camby all his career, sacrificing sound team defense to go after blocks. That said, I still like the deal. I wouldn't want to stake the franchise's future on Camby, but considering the death of big men that the Blazers have, even stat-hunting presence is better than nothing. Juwan Howard has been a pleasant surprise, but he slots in much better as a backup.
I have a feeling tomorrow is going to be an insane day.......more trades all over the NBA. Possibly another one for us? Iggy?!?!
A part of me is sorry to see Travis go, but my gut reaction is that this is a good deal. In the short term, it gives the team some hope for a play-off berth. After all those years out in the wasteland, that is nothing to sneer at. It would also seem to imply that Roy really is due back soon. In the long term? I see this not so much as a rental, as an audition. Camby is looking at a pay cut next summer. If he fits in well here, and can be re-signed to a reasonable deal, he gives the team a real insurance policy if everything with Oden and Joel doesn't turn out to be sunshine and butterflies. At least it buys the team a year or two to come up with a better option. Then again, this story could all be BS.
nope.. but its a no lose situation and a stop gap for this season. We need the help he offers... and it also frees up more time for Bayless. And Cunningham.
Heh, if Portland snags Iguodala too, I'll be pretty excited. But now that Pritchard is no longer frightened of in-season trades, anything's possible, right?
