Richard Scudamore ... what an idiot! The head of the premier league is proposing a championship style play-off for englands 4th champions lge spot. It would see the teams 4th to 7th play each other, probably in two home and away legged semi finals then a final in wembly to determine the winner. Sure the idea brings added excitement to the end of the season and sure it would bring more money to some clubs, not to mention added tv revenue for the premier lge that they miss out on from their "great" 39th game idea but do we want clubs like fulham or sunderland or god forbid stoke representing english football at the highest level? Lets face it, these teams arent much better than say hibs in scotland and sure as hell wouldnt have a hope of progressing from the qualifying stages .. dragging down the rep of english football and giving michel platini his wet dream of ending the 3 english semi finalists that we have become accustomed to. Then theres the added incentive for bad teams to finish top 7, clubs will spend money they dont have to try and over acheive and we will end up with more than one portsmouth type situation in the PL. If they know anything about football and common sense then this idea will be scraped, lets hope so! What do you guys think? ps didnt mean my first post on this site to be such a rant but i just read this on skysports.com lol
Honestly, the only reason they're even thinking of doing this is for the extra money they can charge the fans. I would also be less surprised if this was an idea by Platini seeing as he seems to have a vendetta against England but the head of the Premier League?! Crazy. I guess I'm also against this because Arsenal like to place in fourth...
Thanks Ronan. Obv the top 4 are going to be against the idea seeing as it would put them at a disadvantage but david moyes has said hes against it as well. Owen Coyle of bolton and roberto martinez of wigan have approved it saying it would add extra competition since the big 4 keep finishing top 4. Apparently there has to be a 14-6 majority vote to see it go ahead so lets say the big 4 and now everton vote against it .. surely theres another 2 teams that will say no. I like when Arsene Wenger talks sense because i like listening to his views on football but hate him when he goes on about "i did not see this ... we are the most fouled team blah blah blah" i support united btw lol
Yeah, Moyes seems to have a bit of sense in him and is a fantastic manager to top it off -- Props to him. I can see O'Neill voting FOR this seeing as he is the stingiest little fucker in the game, in my opinion! Like you said, I'm sure two other teams with vote against this, but it is still a fairly decent idea. I'd probably support it if I were Tottenham, eh? Good to see you're a lover of Wenger but bad to see you're a fan of the scum!
I don't think Arsenal is at risk of losing top-3 status... Liverpool is the team on the decline... let them and the others do what they must.
