...sit Roy; start Rudy, Batum, and Camby (along w/Miller & LA); have Bayless/Webster/Dante/Howard as the primary reserves; and roll with that 9-man rotation to see what they can do together.

OK, your turn--how would you finish that sentence?

Pretty much what you said, although I'd Brandon would be able to come back before the end of the regular season. I'd also look to add a SG for the 15th roster spot. An experienced guy like Brent Barry, maybe?

Play as many healthy bodies as they have (minus Mills and Pendergraph), try to win every game they play, and hope we put it together for the playoffs.

Tanking isn't an option, even if Roy is out for the year. This is a year of growth for many players on this roster, even though the season as a whole has been somewhat of a disaster (injury wise).

What he said. Except I'd like to see Pendergraph get a few minutes a game.

Although I see the logic in not starting Martel AND Rudy, I would not bench Webster right now.

I say we rest everybody and let our medical staff play.

My argument on that is that Batum is assumed to be our SF for the next 10 years, and that we're hoping Martell can be his backup, but we really don't know if he has the ability to produce as a reserve. If we're ever going to find out, we should find that out now.

Also, the term "bench" (when used as a verb) suggests a minimal role. I still envision him playing 25-30 mpg, often alongside Batum. I just think his skill-set would be of greater value in a reserve role, whereas Batum's skill-set is more suited to the starting spot (IMO).

My position is that everybody that we are depending our future on should get playing time now. We need to find out if these guys can play, and give them the time to develope some chemistry, much like teams such as OKC and Memphis have done, with great results. Bayless and Rudy need thrown into the fire. Batum as well. By end of season we can be a much stronger team if this is done. We will either know that these guys can play, or we will know we need to start shopping.

    Here's Marty's game log...

Prior to last night vs the awful Clippers, neither Rudy or Martell had been tearing it up... I don't see where either has earned a starting role or starter's minutes (30ish). I'd be for limiting either's PT in games they are struggling.

I'd probably start Rudy or Bayless at the 2 as they provide more playmaking/ball movement then MW. My going forward view is pretty much the same as the OP though I'd probably rank Dante and Pendergraph around equal

For the remaining 26 games, the Blazers should...

try to win every game by playing the best players available, since doing anything else would make the Camby trade irrelevant.

Start Miller, Rudy, Webster, LMA, Camby for the rest of the season (or until Roy gets FULLY healthy)
Next year, I expect our roster to be

    Bayless, Roy, Batum, LMA, Oden
    w/backups as
    Miller/Mills, Rudy, Webs, Pendy/Dante, Camby/Pendy

so they're resigning 36 year old Marcus? What about Przybilla, Freeland, Petteri and Claver?

I don't think the roster will stay as static as you... especially this offseason opportunities for real improvement should exist

    Hello darkness, my old friend
Err on the side of caution with Roy but, as long as that is done, play him when it's deemed most likely safe for him to play in terms of re-injury chance.

Beyond that, play the best players as per normal. To me, that means the majority of minutes go to Miller, Roy (when able), Batum, Aldridge and Camby. If the team makes the playoffs, call the season a success in light of the circumstances and, to celebrate, buy a cake and bake it (not an endorsement of the "bake it" team building philosophy).

I think I would have had my facts straight before pulling a trigger on a deal that effected the lives of several players and their families. I would have never traded for Camby if this information was available to us a day earlier. Also, this is something the Blazers Management should have had information on. It's too bad they can't rescind the deal.

The only suggestion made here that Bayless starts over Miller is for next season

That Roy feels his hamstring is not progressing and that his season is in jeopardy

The impact a trade has on the family of the players has to be essentially ignored IMHO. This isn't a charity. Players are assets/pawns. You can treat them with respect, but you can't run a team worrying about this kind of stuff...

Brandon in or out we still needed another big, Blake and Outlaw were expirings in positions that we have players in. I will give that on the day everyone had a chance to be excited about a move, it's a real bummer that Brandon had to come out and start talking about his year being in jeopardy...LAME!
