So is this how it's going to be? After every game the Blazers lose, we hear how Steve Blake did? I have news for you. The Blazers were probably going to lose about half their games the rest of the way anyhow. You best get over it. Until Roy gets right, or somebody from the bench steps up and plays at a higher level from night to night, that is the way it's going to be, and Steve Blake was only going ot hold the young players back. We need to find out if these players off the bench are worth a damn. If they aren't, then we need to move forward and get some who are. The only way we find that out is by getting them out on the court. Steve Blake was never going to get any better, and couldn't possibly, get any worse. Just because our young guys are struggling right now does not change that fact. You are going to take lumps with younger players on the floor. One day they either step up, or step out. With Oden and Pryzbilla out, and Roy hobbled, this is the perfect time to give them that test run, because the Blazers have absolutely nothing to lose at this point.

Blake leaves. Bayless gets more minutes and time as the playmaker. Rudy gets more time with the rock as well. This will only help Portland in the future. Blake was a great presence for the team, but if Portland's going to become a champion, they need Bayless and Fernandez to grow.

    Did I say this season?

The goal for a NBA team is to construct a champion, correct? Trading Blake and allowing our young guys to assume his role is a necessary step towards moving towards that goal. And really, after just a few games we'll soon forget the sting of losing Blake.

Anytime a decision (trade) is made, it' going to be scrutinized. That's the way things are. After all, how else do you learn to make better decisions in the future. Since there is also the chance the team could re-sign Blake (small chance, imo) this summer, it should be talked about. After all, he was a key player in last year's 54-win team.

Evaluating decisions is a very healthy process. Even if it involves criticism.

If you want to live in a nice little fantasy world where every decision you like is the right one, then go ahead.

If Blake spends the rest of the season lighting it up, we will know one of two things.

    A) He was dogging it in Portland.

    B) Nate really can't coach.

    No chance of option "A"

As for option "B"? Well that's another story... ;)

At least people have dialed it back from "dynasty" to just "champions"!

Nope. With Oden and Roy back healthy next year, Batum and Bayless making strides...dynasty still on. :)

You would like them to be injured for your own amusement, wouldn't you?

Question. If Portland isn't going to win the championship in the foreseeable future; if the team isn't going to make the Playoffs this season; if our cornerstones aren't going to be healthy; and, if our supporting cast is average to less-than-average, why do you spend so much time analyzing this lost cause? What's the point of extending so much energy on something that won't ever amount to any satisfaction for you?
