What does New Orleans do with him once Chris Paul gets back on the court? The guy is putting up All-Star numbers in Paul's absence, and the team hasn't really skipped a beat.

Would New Orleans be interested in Rudy and a lotto-protected pick for Collison, or is that too lopsided in our favor? Or, is it too lopsided in New Orleans' favor?

Oh I wouldn't say they haven't skipped a beat. But he is playing pretty well, I will give him that. Like any young PG he has his nights where he looks like a rookie. But he definitly has skills.

I think the bigger question is, if Paul decides to jet New Orleans, what offers can the Hornets get for him? Collison is young, but I think he makes Paul expendable in a year or two.

He's fucking balling right now. I'm really surprised. I'm guessing that Ben Howland's style of play holds his teams back in terms of winning. There is no reason that a team with Kevin Love, Russell Westbrook, and Darren Collison should not have at least made an NCAA championship game. Hell, throw in Josh Shipp as well, since he was an experienced player who made an NBA camp and is playing professionally.

Yeah, they haven't played as well, but it's amazing to see that they are still competitive considering I thought that entire team was Chris Paul and a bunch of role players. Collison has impressed me, and it's hard for rookie PGs to make a positive impact. Especially those drafted way out of the lottery.

We overlooked Darren. Perfectly summed up in this Blazer pre-draft picture:

Collison is a baller, I really liked him coming out of UCLA. Lightning quick, great ball handling and very instinctive. The shortfall on him coming out of college was that he was rail thin and didn't have a jumpshot.

I really thought the Blazers were going to move up and try to take either he or Lawson. I don't know what it would take to get him, but I'd love to trade for him. He's a little undersized, but with his proficiency shooting the ball and really nice pass first instincts I think he'd fit in pretty beautifully with this particular team.

This was really the year of the point guard in the draft. Jennings, Curry, Lawson, Collison, Maynor. There's some really good point guards out of that class.

He is averaging 4.7 turnovers a game in February though.

    Big numbers outside of that.

I don't know. Paul is the best point guard since Magic Johnson and nearly as era-defining a player (in terms of ability, not fame) as LeBron James. Unless the Hornets decide financial issues are more important than on-court competition, I can't see them trading him away. You can't get equal value for him in any one player (unless you get James, which isn't happening) and breaking one prime superstar into multiple lesser players virtually always leaves the team trading the superstar worse off.

His contract is up in two year, and seeing the direction they're headed, he may want out. He's already shown signs, so I don't see him passing up the opportunity to play with other stars (pending the whole CBA predicament). If he asks for a trade and says they should trade him or they're geting nothing back, they'll be in hot seat. I can see the hornets getting an all star and two really good players + 1st rounder for him.

He's in a point guard friendly system. But it wouldn't surprise me to see the money conscious Shinn keep the cheaper player in Collison. Trading Paul

Perhaps so. You'd think this would happen a lot, a big-time player forcing a trade by saying he won't re-sign, but it happens very rarely. My guess is because the player can't earn as much elsewhere if he signs as a free agent, and teams know that, so it would be an empty threat.

But I guess if Paul is really, really unhappy, enough to give up several million dollars...who knows.

I'm not completely sold on that, but only because Collison is putting up decent numbers in the same offense, and Paul as of yet has yet to make even a Finals appearance. Does anyone see a Finals appearance in his immediate future? Shinn is having financial difficulties in NO, he's already bailed on one city, and just maaaayyyybbbeee Paul is the target that teams should be focusing on right now. I guess I just don't see Chris Paul as a LeBron James in terms of both marketing and impact. That may be more my own problem than it is the reality, though.
