I was wondering when he would file. Good props for him. http://www.kgw.com/news/Dad-suing-TriMet-after-3-year-old-stranded-at-MAX-station-85045122.html
I hardly see this worth suing over. Everything turned out ok. This is half of what is wrong with this country. The Tri Met operator may have been an asshole, but that is no reason why TriMet should have to shell out some cash to this guy.
Alternatively, you could hold your son's hand when you enter the train. I helped a kid find her dad at Beaverton TC once, in a situation exactly like this one: dad entered the train, distracted child did not. Didn't get no fucking medal or commendation.
I have a son a few years older and a 1.5 year old... and I can't imagine not having their hand in a public place like that. Wish the son could sue the dad for being an idiot.
you guys didn't watch the video then. He was holding his sons hand, but the kid hit a button the closed the door on their hands, so he had to let go. But for some reason THAT door wouldn't open up again.
It seems that the amount someone sues for should have some relation to damages. $300k? Give me a fucking break. With that being said, it looks like the dad DID have his son's hand. But... $300k? Ed O.
ahh, well in that case, i would be pissed as well, but i would hope i would think a little quicker and SAVE THE DAY!
Don't take your child on public transportation. He could be like every other hippie in this city and ride his bike. Get one of those ridiculous bike trailers and peddle his kid around town.
No I didn't look at the video... but I don't hold my kids hands in the parking lot because I am all lovey dovey... it is so I can yank them out of the way if car is heading the wrong direction. It is unfortunate that his kid was outside when he was inside. I don't really think the doors should open after the train starts moving... that would be a huge safety issue. His kid hit a button he was not supposed to, which apparently close the doors (strange, but maybe he hit the close door button?) Was the intercom working? Even if it was... if the train was already moving... what option is there other than going to the next stop anyway... you can't just back it up can you? We have to pay the $300K if he gets it.
I agree, it's a ridiculously small amount for what was nearly the tragic death of a child. Tri-Met has killed quite a few citizens since it's inception, mostly due to it's refusal to implement reasonable safety measures because of cost. 7 figures seems more fair, and more likely to send the appropriate message.
Maris was the guy who stood outside the Beatle's hotel with a sign that said "Love is NOT all you need: You need food, water, shelter, clothes...."
I almost got killed by a Tri-met bus a while back. It was one of the transit busses where they go pick up the elderly/disabled. My gf at the time had a brand new Subaru that had 127 miles on it. The bus ran a red light doing 45. The driver was reading a map as he drove (he told us). He was so late through the light that we got the green light and crossed 2 lanes before he hit the front of our car essentially T-boning us..thankfully it hit the very front of the car. We spun around like a top faster than I could blink. About 3 more feet through the intersection and I'm quite sure it would have been a flush enough hit to kill us. So we had admission the driver was reading a map while driving (extreme negligence esp. because it likely could be due to Tri-met's scheduling policies), numerous witnesses, etc...but since Tri-met self insures they fought tooth and nail against paying out on the claim for the car...it took 2 years...and they even started claiming the accident wasn't their fault. LONG story short...he should sue the shit out of them!
I've had so many goddamn max operators look me in the eye, smile, and then refuse to open the door for me. Seriously. Fuck them.
