Pretty good article. I also had NO IDEA about the arrests for Florida and Alabama mentioned. Funny how things are. http://sportsillustrated.cnn.com/2010/writers/stewart_mandel/02/23/oregon/index.html
forget bama and florida look at penn state! "Penn State's program was the subject of an eviscerating Outside the Lines report in July 2008 that detailed 46 player arrests over a six-year period. " i love joe pa tho lol
It is nice piece of journalism to acually check and compare instead of just saying 'this is a huge problem because we reported on it 4 different times!!!'
But is it good journalism to say 'Hey, it's no problem because all these other big programs let it happen'?
No one is saying it is right to get a DUI or commit domestic violence or any other crime... but kids do those things. If James is convicted of anything... you know he is gone. Canzano is saying it happens *more* than usual at Oregon and that Kelly is part of the reason. When as a journalist... and granted Canzano is in the role of radio host and columnist... where has every right to have an opinion... you focus on one aspect and blow it out of proportion to try to prove your point... I do have a bit a problem with that. I thought after the Kelly reinstated Blount and Canzano didn't like it... said they same shit... bad message... too soft (even when confronted with facts like the same thing happening at other schools with MUCH less or no punishment)... Canzano still wouldn't back off and now he is just looking for excuses to try to prove his point. He is trying to create a problem where none exists... and as a radio host and columnist you have a hell of a megaphone to blast your opinion out there.
