Yes, I admit there are some games where his jump shots in clutch situations have been really bad and was hoping that he would pass the ball to someone else. But I give this guy grit, takes the ball to the hoop, and draws opponents to foul him when he does a pump fake. I think a lot of us that this guy has heart and wants to win, and he signed with us with a mid level deal. Anyone agree with me?
I thought this was interesting... http://blog.oregonlive.com/behindblazersbeat/2010/02/portland_101_toronto_87_brando.html
I think both LA and Miller have been doing so much for this team lately. He wasn't hot tonight, but LA has been going to the hoop more and hitting the fading jump shot when the defense gives it to him. Plus, he's been double teamed which helps get other guys open. Miller just seems like a guy who gets respect from everyone who is on the court with him. He never hesitates to go to the hole and he's probably got one of the best IQ's on the team basketball-wise. Hooray for them helping us get back in the win column.
Millers shot selection is horrible if its beyond the 15 -20 foot arc. I cringe when he attempts to make a 3 point shot, like he doesn't have any hops in his calves. He can be deadly driving towards the basket or doing a head fake like hes going to pass but puts the ball into the hoop. He has a lot of grit, a little more refined basketball IQ over bayless. Bayless has the 3pt shot down but still needs to learn from Miller on overall reading the court for an available player to make a cut through the middle and score.
I had just posted before the game to MB's blog that Miller is a excellent PG, but I wish he didn't shoot so many 3s. A lot of the time though players pass the ball to him with no time on the clock and he has to shoot the 3. Usually the player that pass it to him should have taken the shot.
Agreed, he is REALLY coming around, so happy for him and the team... And yes his 3's just are one of the ugliest things you see around, always on target, but the arc is horrible.
I'd say he's a little above average starting point guard. Which doesn't sound like much, but how long has it been since Portland's had one of them? I absolutely love having him on the team. But we've been thirsty so long that decent drinking water tastes like a fine wine. If a certain draft had gone a little differently and he were backing up Chris Paul or Deron Williams for us, I'd probably be a little less enamored.
BTW, even JQ was tossing some Miller appreciation around this morning. He said "I get him more, now, and he's become one of my favorite guys on the team." This, after he spent two months telling anyone who would listen that Miller should/would be traded.
BTW--"Old Man River" is such a classic nickname for Howard. Like the Mississippi, he just keeps rolling along, year after year.
