I've considered both this camera and the G11, and my conclusion was you can get a very nice DSLR for around the same price. It might not be the newest version, but it'll still take great pictures. Something like the Nikon D70S or D5000 would be great. Personally, I own the Nikon D700 w/ 70-200mm 2.8 lens and the 50mm 1.4G lens. I love it.
So with SD cards, do you usually want to go with the ultra versions of them? Or is it not that big of a deal? What's the best brand? 16gb seems like a lot. 8 is probably all you'll really need right?
I've been doing tons of research on Digital cameras lately. Every site I've been to has the s90 as the top non SLR camera on the market.
Btw, I do have a SLR. A Nikon D90. But I do plan on getting the Canon S90 for more random stuff. It's small and the quality is very good. Check out this example pic I found on flickr of a S90:
Here are some pic examples from the Canon S90 from Ken Rockwell's website. http://www.kenrockwell.com/canon/s90.htm
http://www.amazon.com/Canon-PowerShot-SX1IS-Stabilized-2-8-inch/dp/B001SER44W looks interesting, shoots 1080 video too.
The kick ass Canon S90 just got a little better with the Canon S95. http://news.cnet.com/8301-17938_105-20014079-1.html?tag=mncol;5n
