Arsenal are reporting that Aaron Ramsey suffered fractures of his tibia and fibula in his right leg as a result of a reckless tackle by Ryan Shawcross at Stoke yesterday. There is no rehabilitation schedule yet but it goes without saying that Ramsey will miss the remainder of the season. Recovery time will be lengthy and could keep the teenager off the pitch for all of next season. It was almost exactly two years ago that Arsenal forward Eduardo suffered a similar injury as a result of a challenge from Martin Taylor versus Birmingham. Taylor was given a three match ban as a result of the challenge as the FA deemed there was no intent to injure. Likewise, Ryan Shawcross has been given a three match ban. Obviously Arsenal are objecting to the punishment but their complaints, as always, will fall on deaf ears. Its well known that you can kick the shit out of Arsenal every game because that's just how teams play against us and if we don't like it its because we are soft. For the record this is the third time since 2006 that an Arsenal player has suffered a severe fracture + dislocation from a bad tackle. Abou Diaby was felled by Dan Smith in May of 2006.
Its also not Shawcross' first bad tackle that has led to an injury, either. He broke Francis Jeffers' ankle. Arseblog got it right by saying that a teenager in a sportscar comes around a corner going too fast and mows down a pedestrian. Doesn't mean the teenager was a bad person or that his driving history is relevant. What's relevant is the end result of poor decision making.
This is such an awful thing to happen to any player, I wouldn't wish it upon anyone. The only just punishment would be to keep Shawcross out of the game until Ramsey's return but we all know that isn't going to happen. You can become friends with Aaron Ramsey (it's genuine) and his girlfriend to send them some well-wishes.
According to the Mirror Ramsey's fracture isn't as bad as Eduardo's because it is closer to the ankle. He might only be out for six months.
