Just a guess, but I'd presume that KP and his staff think he can help the team. Since they know way more about him than I do, I'm content to sit back and see what he brings.

Because the Rose Garden will explode if Portland goes more then a month without having a slow white 3 point specialist on the team.

This dude is a Homeless Man's Steve Blake.

    That isn't a complement.

A grizzled Veteran PG to run the offense and can play next Roy effectively just chucking 3's....unless you want Andre Miller shooting those kick out 3's :dunno:

Against the Wolves Andre could have used the rest but had to be re-inserted back into the game 'cause the second unit couldn't get into their offense and hold the lead. Also the Blazers haven't handled full court pressure that well this year. Rudy doesn't have handles and Bayless isn't really a "true point" unless you count penetrating and dishing.

Give me a break. You don't bring in Diener to fix that. You work with Bayless, figure it out. Backup PG fuck up all the time in this league. That is why they are the backups. Teams have to jerk their backups out of the game for starters to finish all the time.

We got this guy because if Andre or Bayless go down - we are going to have to figure out how Mills does as a backup PG - and while it might work, there is a good chance it might not. He is insurance, cheap insurance, but cheap insurance is better than no insurance.

I am sure that if there was a better Center insurance available - the Blazers would have gone that way - but, generally speaking - that's why they got him.

And what happens if it doesn't? The same thing as before. We go to the playoffs and lose, and or get a 1 in a bazillion chance at a lotto pick. It's not like we are vying for a championship this year.

If Andre goes down, Batum or Rudy could step in a pinch anyhow. I know for a fact Batum can play point. He did it this summer very well.

I guess you do not think that experience for such a young team (or at least, young core) is worth it, even if they lose in the first round, and I guess the Blazers brain trust disagrees with you.

What's the downside of acquiring Diener? He's a cheap, playable vet. It's better than an open roster spot.

Well, we were getting pretty short on white players, so this helps.

Not at all. What if tomorrow Cleveland waives LeBron? We'd want to pick him up, but since KP loves all his players, he'd never consider cutting his old buddy Diener, and so we miss out on LeBron. This signing just cost us a bunch of championships. Damn you, kpee!

Oooh, you're right. Killing two birds with one stone is a master stroke for KP.

Does not matter, he would not be able to play in the playoffs if he is waived tomorrow.

Better a bird in the hand than a LeBron on the tree, I say.

Would we? Does he play Nate's style of ball? Would Roy feel comfortable playing alongside him? Would LeBron be cool with strengthening the team's second unit, or would he bolt in free agency?

Your analysis needs to go a bit deeper.
