My first response to this is CASH GRAB, but I will admit that from the youtube clips I've watched/listened to this Rome kid isn't bad. And according to an LA Times article about the band both Eric and Bud are, and have been sober for a while now. That kind of excites me because when sober, or not completely smashed, Sublime was a tight band. Unfortunately they were almost always fucked up and their shows were extremely sloppy because of it. A sober Bud and Eric coupled with this Rome kid who sounds pretty good piques my interest. If they make it to Portland I will not miss it.
A few years ago, there was a sublime tribute album...it was cool and all and I went to the concert, but the experience was a bit odd....not as "real" as you would imagine. Dunno, maybe because it was in hollyweird, I'd much rather the concert be in the LBC on a Saturday or Sunday afternoon. Fuck Hollywood.
When I first heard that Sublime with Rome was coming out I never heard of this Rome guy, then I heard the song "Lay Me Down" by the Dirty Heads feat. Rome and I just about lost my lunch. But after watching that YouTube clip I'm pretty impressed. I'd probably go to a live show if there wouldn't be so many douche bags there.

AIC's saving grace was that Jerry Cantrell wrote and sang a lot of the music. Obviously its a lot different with no Staley but its passable. Sublime with no Bradley Nowell? Its like if Nirvana got a replacement for Kurt Cobain. Dude seemed to be the mastermind of the band, wrote most material, played guitar, sang, defined the whole attitude/persona of the band, etc. Granted, I think Bud and Eric did start up their own things (Long Beach Short Bus, etc.) when Brad died. I'm not upset that they're doing this but as a big Sublime fan I'm not that excited to go see it. I'm sure those guys could use some cash and the Sublime fanbase has grown tremendously and there's a lot of people who never got the chance to see them live who now can. I just think I wouldn't be very into it with a different dude singing, bunch of douche bags in the audience (though I'm sure I would no doubt be considered a douche to everyone else as well), etc. etc. [ Yeah there's also a band called "Badfish: A Tribute to Sublime" that seems to be playing in Santa Cruz CONSTANTLY. Have no interest in seeing them but I find it fascinating that they can support themselves by being a tribute band to Sublime.
yeah, they were actually here a few weeks ago in Hermosa Beach. What can I say, people like listening to sublime songs. This all reminds me of Journey being replaced by that filipino dude. haha.
