That Roy's defense on semi-star players the last couple of games has been totally shitty? The 1st half effort on Rudy Gay was terrible. The effort last night on D was terrible as well. Maybe it's just me, but it seems as though if Roy isn't scoring, or bringing up the ball, he just stands around on Offense, and on D, he's not really active like he was last year. In fact, I am starting to wonder if last year was his better year, in terms of all-around impact. Just some early morning thoughts from the last couple of game's impressions.
Totally. It's really concerning, since both games were so close... we could have lost either at any time.
Who was Roy "shitty" against last night? He was defending Brandon Rush with some responsiblity on TJ Ford and Earl Watson. If you're talking about Granger, he was launching 3s over LaMarcus and Batum. Plus, Roy blocked 3 shots last night and had his usual 5 rebounds. What an odd criticism.
Just because he is facing a poor opponent does not mean that the lack of effort cannot be noted, plus I believe the above poster cited more than last nights game.
3 blocks, 5 rebounds, Indy scores 79 points. I think it's an odd criticism. The poster can post what they want; can't I criticize the criticism? So, to answer the question; no, I haven't noticed.
For a guy who plays such generally 'average' defense anyway, I think he's doing fine considering that the hammy is still not at 100%, and looking at the number of steals (3) he had against Memphis, and the fact that he had 3 blocks against Indiana, I have to agree that your timing seems a little 'odd.'
I didn't say you couldn't criticize it. A big majority of that defense that caused that listed above, was done by other players, especially Bayless who got up in Travis Fords face and made it hard for him to even dribble. The game didn't open up until the 2nd quarter when the bench came in and clamped down.
The game didn't open up until Granger started missing the 26' jumpers he was launching. It was a very good defensive effort all around. You can credit other players, but blaming Roy for "terrible" defense is a stretch IMO.
The Stache already has a championship ring while Roy and LMA do not. Just one more "fail" by KP. He should have listened to Canzano.
Eh, I expect the Roy fanboi's to defend him at all costs, and dont get me wrong he's my favorite Blazer, but in all honesty, he does look to be a step slower when defending guys. Maybe I am nit-picking specific plays and not looking at the whole picture, again I am more concerned about the first half of the games; where its more apparent. It seems as though when M&M say that Brandon is such a great defender, I see a lot of guys going past him easily.
Blue32, you're not alone. I've noticed it too. It just so happens I watched him a lot on defense last night and at times he was pretty much cashing it in. His help defense at times was non-existent. But I wouldn't read too much into it. The game wasn't that close, you got the sense we could pull away whenever we wanted, and Roy has the ability, when he wants to, to make great plays on defense, like his blocks last night. I don't blame him for taking it easy sometimes, given his injuries and minutes. He usually steps up when he needs to. I'm glad March will give the entire team more rest, especially Roy.
I'm not defending him at all costs, and I'm certainly not a Roy "fanboi". I just found your criticism odd and not at all based on what I observed, in person, last night. You could probably answer me without calling me names. That might add some credibility to your odd criticism of Roy.
Funny, because I was watching him on defense as well, and thought he did a nice job of help defense by collapsing on Ford and Watson when they penetrated. I guess people see different things. If fact, I thought the defensive effort last night was near-elite in terms of the team being cohesive and helping Miller/Bayless stop Ford specifiically from getting to the rim.
Are you really insulted by "fanboi"??? Gimme a break. Grow a pair. That might give you more credibility. Yeah, who wouldda thought?
Where did I say I was insulted? If I called OP a Roy "hater", would that help matters? Way to stay on-topic, btw. Oops, did that insult you? Now, back to the thread...
I've noticed his "slacking" on defense, and I'm of the opinion it has to do with his hamstring. To play great defense, you need to squat down, keep your feet moving and be ready to change directions at the drop of a hat. I don't think Brandon wants to test his hamstring at both ends of the floor. I think he does the things that don't cause him to use his hamstrings well (crashing the boards, banging his guy, etc.), but in terms of getting up on his opponent on the perimeter and trying to stay in front of him, not so much. It's good we have Nico to cover his guy come the playoffs. I also think Martell is underrated as a defender.
