Anyone else in here think the Mavericks might overtake the Lakers for the top spot? Right now, the Mavs are only 4 games behind the Lakers. The Mavericks are on a 10 game win streak while the Lakers are sizzling out with losses to the lowly Heat and Bobcats (we won in both cities).

The Mavericks' next 6 games are against Sacramento, Chicago, Minnesota, New Jersey, New York, and Chicago. All completely winnable.

The Lakers play 9 of their next 12 games on the road against Orlando, Phoenix, Golden State, Sacramento, San Antonio, Oklahoma City, Houston, New Orleans, and Atlanta. If they can't beat Miami and Charlotte, they're in some serious trouble over the next few weeks.

The only thing going against the Mavericks is the injuries to Terry and Haywood and the fact that Kidd is old and will need to sit out some games between now and the playoffs.

Look at the numbers, folks. Looks like the Lakers will fall to the #2 seed. That's fine with me because I think we'll play well enough to grab the #7 seed and the Lakers are my pick for a first round opponent.

    Thoughts?

What do you agree or disagree with in my argument? The Mavs are hot, haven't lost with current roster, and have an easy schedule. Lakers have toughest road schedule of the season coming up and they've been playing mediocre basketball on the road for several weeks now.

I think they lost their first game after the trade.

My bad. You're right. But Haywood didn't start that game.

Dallas has won 10 in a row. Realistically Dallas would have to go about about 17-2 the rest of the way to pull it off. That is 27-2 over all. I do not see it.

Personally, I hope that L.A. wins against Phoenix, San Antonio, Oklahoma City, Houston and New Orleans. I also hope they get their ass kicked by 20+ plus the rest of those games.

Ok, while Kingspeed can be a bit reactionary at times, I do agree that it's a possibility. The Lakers have seemed at least a bit vulnerable recently, and the Mavs are very hot. I still think LA gets the 1 seed, but I wouldn't be surprised at all if the Mavs overtook them.

I bet if the Lakers get the 2nd seed, we'll end up with the 7th seed.

I don't think Dallas will get the 1st seed. Practically every game they have won in this streak they have been down big and clawed their way back to barely escape with a win. It's not like they're dominating the opponent. A win is a win, but at the same time, one wrong bounce and they could have easily lost a ton of those games too.

I think you could say the same thing about the Lakers this year. Actually, historically the Lakers have been really good at making comebacks to win games. this year Kobe has hit a lot of game winners.

Dallas has the lowest point differential of any western conference playoff team, yes even lower than us the current #8 seed.

Seems like this thread would be marked OT. I want that 3 minutes of my life back.

It's not OT because it has a huge impact on who we will face in the playoffs.

Portland isn't making it past the first round, so it hardly makes a difference.
