i've seen a few times in this league where a player has a really good season in his third or fourth year, then plateaus for a few seasons, then makes another jump. So, is there such thing as a "2nd prime"?

Yepperz. The 2nd prime almost always comes after a player is traded/coming off injury/or has sudden new surroundings. It is sort of rare when a player, out of the blue, kicks it up a notch and has a breakthrough season after plateuing.

The only time I would consider him "dropping off" is when he missed about half the season the first year after Larry Brown left for Detroit.

I think Elton Brand is a name that could be thrown in there.

Vince Carter is having one I guess. After a couple of sub par years in Toronto, he was traded to NJ and is a star again

Brand has put up 20/10 every single year in this league (even rookie year), the only thing is, he's gotten better and has a good supporting cast. So he's noticed again. He's been putting up the same numbers as Tim Duncan his whole career, except better this year.

Re: Is there such thing as a "2nd prime"?

Sometimes guys get rid of injuries and move to a team where they put up better numbers, it's not a second prime because if your putting up elite numbers or better numbers you have to be or most of the time in your prime to begin with, this thread makes no sense.<div class='quotetop'>QUOTE (Lakaboy42 @ May 7 2006, 06:19 PM) <{POST_SNAPBACK}></div><div class='quotemain'>Steve Nash.</div> When was his first prime?<div class='quotetop'>QUOTE (pistonz4life @ May 7 2006, 08:39 PM) <{POST_SNAPBACK}></div><div class='quotemain'>I think Elton Brand is a name that could be thrown in there.</div> Huh? He's always put up good numbers, so his ppg goes up a little bit and it's considered a 'second prime?'

Re: Is there such thing as a "2nd prime"?

I think Mash is a good example. He went through a "2nd prime" and became a first time all-star in his last season. Kinda sad he went out like that, but he ended his career with a career season! I could see it happening easily though with the way starters have been taking role player roles to win games. Say if Finley or Walker were traded to a bad team they could experience a "2nd prime".

Their is no such thing as a second prime. [IMG] Kobe Bryant is still in his prime, how can he be in his 2nd? This makes no sense.

Re: Is there such thing as a "2nd prime"?

You are all wrong. The classic example that I can think of is Tim Hardaway and Antonio McDyess. Both guys had good starts then had lingering injuries for a long time and was forgotten in the NBA. When both of them found a new home, Miami and Detroit respectively, they became stars once again. Well, Dice is a 6th man but still is a monster.

Re: Is there such thing as a "2nd prime"?

I don't think there's a second prime, because all these players had all reached their potential in terms of skill, they just needed a change of teams or players around them to showcase that. Basically they all needed some type of motivation to take their game to the next level (again.)

If your between 27-32 your in your prime, this talk of a 2nd prime is the stupidest thing i've ever heard.
