    Any accountants in here?

Anywho, the short and sweet question is, we spent around $10,000 moving here (for a job that was waiting for me in Portland) from Georgia.

Part of that cost involved me and my wife driving across the country...staying and dining at some nice places.

I entered all of those costs (gas, food, and lodging) into a spreadsheet and we're about ready to send all of our tax stuff to our accountant (in Georgia).

My question is, can we write-off the entire trip? Or, are there some per diems we may have to abide by?

    Thanks in advance.

Pretty sure any and all moving expenses can be written off.

You can write off the entire trip. Make sure you include the mileage too .55 cents per mile.

Simply put, he had attempted writing-off a number business lunches from Panda Express. However, the IRS had disallowed those particular write-offs, maintaining he hadn't consumed real food.

Actually the guy was pissed because he started a fake church so he would get tax exempt status and the IRS saw right through it. Went to some seminar where he was told it was perfectly legal.:clap::clap:

According to the IRS website, you can't deduct for meals.

Thanks for this. As we didn't move here until May 15th, it appears that we didn't pass the test of "time"....for 2009. I guess we'll have to submit for 2010.

You'd better read that again, ABM. It doesn't say 39 weeks in 2009, it says 39 weeks in the following 12 months.
