Just curious on everyones thoughts. Will he be traded this summer? Will he backup Batum next year? Traded at the deadline? Or a key guy off the bench?

After watching him lately... you really notice how bad his body language is. He looks like a guy who just got beat up by his little brother. I feel bad for him. Always thought he could really emerge for us. I think his final games as a Blazer are upon us. He wont be here next fall IMO.

    Thoughts?

I was already saying he should be traded even before a scrub like Ime Udaku took his job. Then I knew it for sure. Ime is still the better player.

I think his contract might make him hard to trade unless someone thinks they can use him.

    CAP HIT 2009-10 2010-11 2011-12 2012-13
    Martell Webster 4,344,000 4,344,000 4,800,000 5,256,000 5,712,000

He's shown what he can do and if he's used appropriately I'm sure he can find success. He's just not a starting SF as we all thought he was.

edit: i can't seem to get the formatting to work. :dunno:

Thoughts? Well, you might be right, but I'm trying to think of who would really want him making the mid-level money that he does for two more seasons (with a team option for a third)? With the collective bargaining agreement set to expire, and salaries almost certain to take a dive, he might end up looking like a pretty expensive player for the production he provides. If he's going to be moved he will likely be contract ballast in a multi-player deal that nets the Blazers a player who is maybe slightly overpaid.

He was doing fine before all of his minutes were taken (and rightfully so)...He'll back up Batum, Rudy is not good enough to take all of the minutes at G/F.

I think he will be here a solid bench player and insurance, I don't think he goes anywhere and would be surprised if the blazers made any real moves this summer with the emergence of Batum at the SF and Oden coming back, I just don't see moves being made.

Rudy is a better shooter and passer, has a much better handle and can create some from the dribble - so, he is clearly ahead of Webster in the rotation - where Webster is ahead is at checking the bigger small-forwards/physical small-guards.

Don't expect Webster's minutes to change drastically from where we see them now short of further injuries. He is a very nice guy and it is hard not to hope for the best for him - but he is just a role player, and not that great of one, to be honest.

Yup, I'd rather go with a 3 guard lineup than have Webster at the 3. One thing he does do better than Rudy is hit the glass, but Rudy is better in every other way.

If he could ever get comfortable coming off the bench and be some instant offense for 15-20 minutes a game, he may find a niche. But so far he has shown he's incapable of coming off the bench cold.

Then you simply don't understand the game. He sets up teammates for easy shots arguably better than any player on the team.

Pryz's contract plus Webster is a nice package deal at next season's deadline.

Webster is beyond expendable on this roster.

Huh? In the last game, he made two of the best passes I've ever seen for wide open baskets. That's a skill that we can really use on this team.

He definitely needs to improve on the runner and how to effectively use a mid-range game, no question on that. It just goes too far to say all he can do is shoot from distance. Rudy is only in his 2nd NBA season after all.

I think it all hinges on whether or not Camby stays or goes and despite your feelings about what he'll do, it's all very much up in the air; the Blazers likely are going to have a need for him mostly because Joel is looking less and less likely to be ready to go in time for training camp, and considering the nature of his injury and the fact that he's suffered the same injury in the span of 3 months doesn't seem like a good omen for the 2010-2011 season and maybe even his career quite frankly.

Ugh. IMO, he definitely needs to abandon the runner until he has a whole off-season to work on it. But instead I think I'd rather see him log about a thousand hours practicing going to his left instead, which would make his life a whole lot easier and he wouldn't need that gimmick shot.
