i wouldnt call him the best because he if he played like this on the original bad boys he would have never even won one DPOY. He is a good defender in a time when the offensive star is the one who is praised the most so thats what everyone strives for. So he worked his ass off to be the best defensive player in the league and he has done that. But i would not call him all time best. He might not even be the Pistons all Time best. I think Rodman would have to win that.
Why does he get this award all the time? He isnt that much of a defender, he comes out on the weak side and blocks shots. Ok, and he grabs rebounds. Doesnt play man-to-man, lock-down defense. When will Bruce Bowen get it, already?

Yeah, Ben Wallace can definitely play one-on-one defense, not only against big men but he can contain a lot of perimeter players as well.He keeps getting the award because he is the heart and soul of that Pistons team and their defense. The only guy that could give him a run for it is Artest, and he hasn't played a full season in two years.

Ben is our leader, Bruce Bowen is a role player on the Spurs.
He's not one of the best all-time because he never locks anyone down or shuts anyone down. Dikembe Mutombo was a much better defensive player.
what in the world are half of you guys talking about...first you got a wizards fan trying to talk about defense...when is the last time the wizards saw a defensive presence...Wes Unseld maybe?...you got some goof saying Shaq should have won it...yeah there is the epitomey of a defensive presence, a guy people are scared to take it at because his big ass is gonna flatten them...and then you got this last clown going on about mutombo...Mutombo???...the only thing he ever did was block shots, hell if you wanna go there, lets throw Mark Eaton into the mix as well...there a reason Ben got it...and no its not because hes the heart and sole of the team...its because he was in the top ten in 3 of the most statisical categories..rebounds, blocks and steals...in turn that makes for a very good defensive player, and quite possibly the best of all time
Congrats to Ben Wallace. He may not be the best defenders ever but he is definatley one of the best of this time. You can never truely say the best ever because you don't know how they would have down in different eras.

You guys are ripping on him b/c he has had it too many times.

its his fourth time getting the award, its not what i would call too much...a guy could easily be a presence, for 5, 6 even 7 years and deserve it each time...4 times only matches Mutombo's tally
been is most definitely the best defender of the millenium-2000 to 2006,but this year he was not playing as consistantly on D as he has, but the only person i could see getting the award besides Ben is AK47 or Bruce Bowen-Kirilenko more that BB-Gun (that what i just now nick-named him. (the edit was when i put been instead of Ben) that would have caused ALOT of problems...
