I think the rumors of KP being on the chopping block are ridiculous, but maybe I have rose-colored glasses. What do you think? At this point, should KP lose his job?
As much as I hate the Oden over Durant pick and getting NOTHING for Raef's expiring contract, I don't think he should lose his job just yet. Getting Batum was brilliant. Getting Bayless for Rush/Jack was solid. It's too early to give a full evaluation because most of the roster is so young and not even close to their potential. The same goes for Victor Claver, Joel Freeland, and Petteri Koponen. Though, I don't think he'll ever get out of the Oden/Durant shadow. Greg can come back and play like he did before the injury and he's still not anywhere near the tier that Durant is on.
I think Oden can come back and make the same impact for this team that KD does with OKC....By that I mean we are on another level with him in the game. The biggest difference is without KD, OKC is the worst team in the league.
I don't think I know enough about how things happened to know one way or another, and even then, I am not sure the events warrant firing. Pretty much every GM at least fires one coach before they are fired, just to show it wasn't coach issue.
I was in the middle until the pre-draft camp when Oden's red-flag plagued physical went public. Oden had superstar potential but the risk of his health was too much. His right leg is 1/2" shorter than his left for fuck sakes! Fast forward three years later and my fears proved to be correct. I hope he can come back and look like he did earlier this season. I just don't see him ever being the quality of player that Durant already is. Greg can very well cost KP his job.
While that is nice and all, every GM makes mistakes, and given long enough, every GM will have some down years with their team. The facts are, humans are too unpredictable to know how it will all pan out. You can take you best educated guess (because that is what it is) and still get fucked. That's just the facts. Look at Detroit. They put together a championship team, but still managed to take Darko Milichic in the draft. Then last year, they put together a stinker of a free agency year. But I don't believe their championship was dumb luck.
It's like saying Gregg Popovich should lose his job because the Richard Jefferson deal didn't work out. Ridiculous.
Canzano made some sense today: Pritchard is a great talent evaluator but not a good manager of the talent. He's not a guy who can turn this roster into a title contender. He's too sensitive with the players. His sensitivity and buddy-buddy relationship is something I've been harping on for two seasons.
okay... off to a really bad start time and health should turn this roster into a title contender were Travis and Blake prime examples you'd been pointing to in your 2 years of ranting? STOMP
There's NO reason to let KP go. This team was ravaged by injuries this year, and other than MAYBE Oden, I don't see how a case could be made that any of those injuries are remotely attributable to KP. The Miller signing was good. The Camby trade was good. Unless there's something I REALLY don't know, I don't see how or why KP would be fired. Ed O.
I was thinking more about Penn's agent's "lies." In any case, the rumor is all around the country now. I just wanted to prove that there's some solidarity about KP with the fans.
You keep claiming this and it continues to be wrong. He got the same thing for it that any team trading for it would have gotten: cap space. And he used that cap space for Andre Miller. So technically you're wrong and in practical reality you're wrong.
Says who? You and Canzano? He's traded Jack, Sergio, Blake, Frye, Outlaw, Dixon, kept Mills over Udoka, etc, etc. I don't get this whole Pritchard is too sensitive with this roster horseshit, probably because there are no facts to back it up. All I've seen from Pritchard is he keeps who he thinks is the best talent and ships out other pieces to try and get pieces he thinks are better. Sounds like a good GM to me. Blake/Outlaw for Camby? LOL. Robbery. Pritchard has assembled 4/5 of a starting lineup that can win a championship in the next 5 years. The main pieces are already in place, and people still want more. Message boards are ridiculous.
Pritchard shouldn't and won't lose his job over Greg. It's not like he gambled when he took Oden. Nearly every GM in the league would have done the same thing. The real question is, if KP had taken Durant and Durant had been the one with the injuries, and Oden been the one who was setting the league on fire.... would you fire KP then?
