Arrogant, rubs people the wrong way, pisses Paul Allen off... Some of the things used to describe Penn could also used in describing the letter that got sent out to all the GM's telling them not to sign Darius Miles.
I've met Miller a few times and after reading his most recent interview it just doesn't sound like him.
Are you sure? Kind of sounds like our salary cap expert was getting pissed because he wasn't going to have as much salary cap to play with. If you were going to send a nastygram to all of the GM's in the league wouldn't the lawyer on staff be the one to write it and send it?
Makes no difference if he wrote it or not. Miller sent it, Miller outranked Penn, ergo Miller is responsible, even if Penn penned it. barfo
Maybe I'm just burned out on TP talk, but why does it matter who drafted that poorly worded document, when everybody in the organization owned it?
OK, I see what you're saying. Could he have had a hand in drafting it? Maybe...but that's not the kind of thing that gets drafted / sent out without being approved higher up than TP... probably with PA's knowledge. So I was just going with who was responsible for it...not who might have helped write it...regardless, that whole mess was stupid.
Agreed. Even if Penn wrote it, either it was approved and sent by someone higher up or Penn sent it of his own accord without consulting anyone. In the first case, the higher-up is responsible, because it was his decision to send it. In the second case, Penn likely would have been fired on the spot, not well over a year later.
There is no way a subordinate sends out a letter threatening a potential lawsuit against another NBA team without running that thing WAY WAY up the internal flagpole...so I like option 1
Me too. I was just saying that in the extremely remote chance that Penn went rogue, I doubt he'd have kept his job until now.
That was still one sloppily-written letter. I don't care who wrote it or who edited so much as I hope that they learned their lesson from their odd use of "torturous" and "perspective". Ed O.
I don't care who wrote the letter. What I care about is when are they gonna sue Boston and Memphis? It's taking them FOR EVER to put together their case.
"Did Penn write the Miles letter?" Now that Penn's gone, we know who offered Hedo too much, who failed to use the LaFrentz contract, and who gave Paul Allen cancer. It will all come out now. Our intrepid scribe Jason Quick will hear the whispers and get the scoop.
