Did he ever win a playoff series as a player?

BTW here's where he finished in the standings each year as a coach

    5th
    4th
    5th
    5th
    1st
    5th
    3rd
    3rd
    1st
    4th (projected)

    That is DIVISION not conf.

STELLAR! The franchise is in incredible hands.

At least we play exciting basketball though right?

EDIT: he was on the Sonics finals team right? (I think)

    EDIT 2:

    1987 -- defeated Dallas, 3-1, first round
    defeated Houston, 4-2, conference semifinals
lost to LA Lakers, 4-0, conference finals

    1989 -- defeated Houston, 3-1, first round
lost to LA Lakers, 4-0, conference semifinals

    No longer main starter:

1992 -- defeated Golden State, 3-1, first round
lost to Utah, 4-1, conference semifinals

    1993 -- defeated Utah, 3-2, first round
    defeated Houston, 4-3, conference semifinals
lost to Phoenix, 4-3, conference finals

    1996 -- defeated Sacramento, 3-1, first round
    defeated Houston, 4-0, conference semifinals
    defeated Utah, 4-3, conference finals
lost to Chicago, 4-2, NBA Finals

    1998 -- defeated Minnesota, 3-2, first round
lost to LA Lakers, 4-1, conference semifinals

So as a starter, never got past the first round of the playoffs

And after 10 years of coaching... 10 YEARS I think the very best you can give NM as a coach is an incomplete.

Michael Jordan is the best basketball player to ever play the game ... ergo he must be a phenomenal front office person. :dunno:

Well you appear to be making the argument that the Blazers are in great hands because Nate was a great player ...

EDIT: it appears you went back and added stuff to your oginal post to clarify, your first run wasn't very clear

Not sure. Something about Michael Jordan being a good player or something.

Actually, was making the opposite point

    (Well, trying to)

I think every year under him is a waste.

He's coached 10 years now. Wonder what grade people would give him on his coaching career.

In that case I'd have to say a 'C' maybe a C+ because he appears capable of getting guys to play hard for him, but when it comes time to lead them to something greater than overachievement, I'm not so sure he's got the raw talent in Xs and Os and in game management to best guys like Phil, Adelman, etc.

Man, I wonder how Jeff van Gundy managed to take the Knicks to the Finals in 99. Dude never even played in the NBA and we all know that coaching ability is dependent upon how far your teams went in the NBA playoffs.

My point was never that he was a good or bad player. Was just wondering if he's ever won a playoff series.

He has won a few as a starter.

NONE in 10 years as a coach. I'd wouldn't mind him as a point guard to be honest.

C is probably the best you could give him.

No idea how this guy has the rep of one of the best young coaches in the game. He's literally done nothing in 10 years.

Wrong. He has one a playoff series as a coach. And has improved the team's record each year he has been with the Blazers.

Really don't get the whole Nate Hate thing, but I guess everybody's entitled to their opinions.

This must be a frustrating year for you Nate Haters. If the team had stayed healthy and finished 8th in the Conference, he'd probably get dumped. As it is, the team is generally recognized as having overachieved yet again despite his "poor coaching". No way he gets the axe after this season.

sorry, was thining of the ONE he WON. Fucking grammar police because you were wrong again? Nice premise though. You start with mocking him having never won a playoff series, and then were shown you were wrong. Might as well shift to a grammatical mistake to save face.

Have you even taken a look at the teams he's coached? He's helped re-build two different franchises from scratch, and done a tremendous job at that. Until Nate starts doing nothing with a healthy roster then you really have no argument or justification to bash him.

Has he not improved the team every year he's been here? Is he not on the Olympic team? Is his name not being mentioned for COY?

Now try to figure out why...

I don't have the foggiest idea why.

he's never done anything except somehow make basketball the most excruciating sport I've ever watched.

I agree. I was wrong. He's one, won series in 10 years.

Is that a coach you'd hire right now if we were in need? A guy with 1 playoff series victory in 10 years?
