Re: Where does Ben Wallace rank with the NBA's greatest defenders? He recently won his 4th which ties him with (the much better defender) Dikembe Mutombo. Their is a lot of buzz about him being one of the best defenders all time. I like Ben Wallace and what he brings to the court, he is a great rebounder and was for 3 years a great shotblocker but I don't think he's a lockdown defender that like a Bill Russell or a Dikembe Mutombo. I don't think you put him in with the best defenders of all-time even if he's won his 4th in 5 years because their are no true post lock down defenders in the game and their have not been in a while. Thoughts?
Re: Where does Ben Wallace rank with the NBA's greatest defenders? It's hard to say, he's certainly the best of his era, but I didn't watch any other great defenders so I'm not sure where he ranks all time.
Re: Where does Ben Wallace rank with the NBA's greatest defenders? I think he has to at least be in the top 10 of all defenders and possibly could be a hall of famer. Ben has been the best defender of his era and he is a great story coming from a D-II school in Virginia Union. He was called too short to play center but he has shown he can D-up the best centers in the league.
Re: Where does Ben Wallace rank with the NBA's greatest defenders? What best centers in the league? Their are only 3 good centers in the NBA. He's only played at an elite level for a handfull of years, look at the awesome defenders in the history, he's not in that list.
Re: Where does Ben Wallace rank with the NBA's greatest defenders? BCB you said it, he is not a lock down defender. He is a garbage defender. He takes care of all the garbage that comes in the lane. He is a great off ball defender but you won't see him locking anyone down.
Re: Where does Ben Wallace rank with the NBA's greatest defenders? I wouldn't call him a garbage defender but he's not a great defender.
Re: Where does Ben Wallace rank with the NBA's greatest defenders? All he does is come out on the weak side and blocks shots, thats why everyone thinks he such a defensive force out there on the court.

Re: Where does Ben Wallace rank with the NBA's greatest defenders? He's not a top 10 alltime defender, I can mention 10 players easily who were better defenders, probably even close to 50 I'll start you out with(not in order)1.Dikembe Mutombo2.Bill Russell3.Gary Payton4.Scottie Pippen5.Wilt Chamberlain

He has 4 DPOYs, there's not 50 players better than him.
Re: Where does Ben Wallace rank with the NBA's greatest defenders? I'd say he's top 20 defender.People say that the defense is so bad in this era but they dont mention the fact that there are so many great offensive players that it is very hard to play defense on them all the time.Ben is the best post defender in the League right now. He is top 10 in rebounds, blocks and steals which is amazing. No one defends the post like he does. He is probably one of the greatest post defenders of all time so he deserves some credit here.
Re: Where does Ben Wallace rank with the NBA's greatest defenders? Honestly Ben wallace is not even the best man to man defender on his team. Rasheed is.

Re: Where does Ben Wallace rank with the NBA's greatest defenders? Here are some better defenders.1) Bill Russell2) Dikembe Mutombo3) Dennis Rodman4) Hakeem Olajuwan5) Alonzo Mourning. He's probably in the top 8 or something. He isnt that dominant a shot blocker anymore, and he's not a league leading rebounder anymore either. He has to continue that dominance throughout his entire career from now on forward if he wants to be considered a Top 3 defender.

Re: Where does Ben Wallace rank with the NBA's greatest defenders? Where are the Pistons fans coming to Ben Wallace's defense?
