Yeah, I heard earlier today that there were very few details available on this, and that people were protesting the shooting yesterday. Why do people protest things about which they have no knowledge? Is the fact that an officer had the audacity to discharge his weapon in and of itself a reason to protest?
i dont think the dude deserved to be shot, let alone 4 times...if a cop cant handle a dude with a 6inch knife then tase him
You don't necessarily know the circumstances. Maybe he drew his gun, the man advanced, and the officer didn't have time to switch. At the same time, the officer doesn't know if the knife is the only weapon the guy has, and given the blood, it would make more sense to be cautious. On the other hand, maybe he had time to switch and it was a poor choice. You and I don't know and to make assumptions about a guy with blood on him advancing on an officer with a 6 inch knife isn't really our place.
I would like to assume everything you jsut said, but given the facts of the last shooting, I could see why people would assume this might have been a unneeded fatal shooting.
I think people are pissed off because of the previous officer involved shootings where there were serious questions about whether force was used appropriately. I agree it's premature to be up in arms about this situation, but I imagine that's why people were so upset. Also, the first information coming out was through the police union, not the department, so appearances are the union is instantly going on the offensive about it... Again, I'm not saying I agree with any of this reasoning, just trying to give a little insight into why some people are jumping right to protests...
Judging by the fact he shot him in both arms, the side, and the hip, I'd guess the cop was backpedalling as fast as he could while shooting.
The rule is, if a person with a knife is within 25 yards, you shoot. Supposedly you will not have time to draw your gun and shoot if someone is within 25 yards with a knife.
25 fucking yards? thats a joke..these guys go through so much training they cant draw a gun faster than a citizen running 25 yards?? am i misunderstanding something?
It might be feet.... actually I think it's feet. 25 feet. Trust me, try drawing and aiming while someone is running at you from 25 feet. It's scary. Still, I'm not necessarily defending the rule. It is something you can train for, and the officer already had his sidearm drawn.
How about you just disarm officers and stop instilling society with fear? They should keep the peace, not force it.
Things are a little different over on this side of the pond, buddy. Billy clubs alone aren't quite going to cut it in Amurrca.
Why not shoot the guy in the legs? That's what I don't get. You shoot him in the leg and I can pretty much guarantee he going to stop coming at you.
There is a difference between local police and SWAT teams. The local police do not carry guns in England, but there is an armed squad that every police station has. Knives are a huge issue in England right now, yet the police still cope with the issue. I just feel like a gun is a cop-out for an officer to efficiently do his job. Perhaps if the guns laws weren't so lax in "Amurrca" you wouldn't have so many shootings.
More power to the officer; culling of the idiots, keeping the streets clean of the moronic imbeciles is A-OK with me. all those people who are protesting, wonder what they'd want the cop to do if the same person was charging them with a fucking knife. I can see it now.... Mommy just got done grocery shopping at whole foods for some granola for her lill' jimmy, when crazy fuck runs at em with a knife, said officer sees it happening, mommy yells for help, police man says "hang on a minute ma'am, let me switch out to my tazer or baton, one second!" all the while, lill jimmy and mommy are shredded to pieces by a 6 inch exacto knife. god damned idiots, what is it going to take to get people to understand removing the stains from the gene-pool is a good thing.
If someone is dumb enough to come at a Police Officer with a knife after being asked several times to "drop the knife"... then the dipshit deserves to be shot. Seems to me like the majority of police officer incidents are a result of idiots not following the officers orders. Do what they say and you wont get hurt!
