Still, it will take a lot of time to radically change the fabric of our society, isnt it??? i mean think how long this legislation took, and it wont take effect till 2014, so i expect it, but not for a while

What an absurd argument. We don't send 70-year-old men to foreign countries to fight our wars, and we don't ask our soldiers to serve in Congress, either, for that matter. But this so-called healthcare reform is going to affect everyone, and that should include the people who are passing it into law.

I HEARD ON CNN THAT IN 2018, you have to pay taxes if your employer gives you healthcare?

    Are you fucking kidding me?

You can always be counted on to add nothing to an argument except empty criticisms of your opponents. Seems to be your specialty on this board.

The best part about that was that Sen. McCain proposed it as part of his health care reform legislation (as a way to delink employment and health insurance) and then-Sen. Obama lambasted him for it. Of course, then-Sen. Obama also took then-Sen. Clinton to task for her health insurance mandate.

    Our President has no shame.

Oh, there are 2,700 pages of surprises awaiting you. Someone should make one of those daily calendars that has a ridiculous clause from this ridiculous bill every single day.

Sadly, I think Steyn has it largely right. I am an optimist by nature, however, so I'll just keep fighting against this legislation I consider illegitimate.

I think the tax was specifically directed at John Boehner

And let us not forget for whom this tax should really be named

    The George Hamilton Tax!

great, that just means the prices of any procedures that utilize some sort of medical "device" will rise.

oh wait, I forgot, those are all just free. :NOTMARIS:

If you stand for limited government, what exactly could the GOP have said yes to on the major drivers of this bill?

BTW, the system is supposed to work so that even the minority gets a vote. Remember the 60 vote filibuster rule in the Senate? Frankly, I think that something as important as nationalizing our health care system should have been be a Constitutional amendment, just like Prohibition.

The bottom line is that this is a deeply unpopular bill with the public, and even more unpopular because of how it was shoved down our throats. Eventually, you must govern with the consent of the people.
