Ok, so it's a dorky thread idea...but for those who like folk music (think 60's), what is your favorite one? the version of my favorite song, arguably it's most recognizable version, is crappy, but here it is.
I think mine is that "Folk the Police" one by NWA
I don't know what necessarily defines a "folk song", but I always liked "16 Tons". http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=jIfu2A0ezq0&feature=related"]http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=jIfu2A0ezq0&feature=related
Y'know, I liked that better before seeing the video. Somehow Tennesee Ernie comes off as something less than sincere. Maybe it is the mustache. barfo

"My Bonnie Lies Over the Ocean." This has been my favorite folk song since I was 6 years old, when I had my first girlfriend, Bonnie Bostan, in Akron, Ohio, which was subsequently the birthplace of LeBron James. My mother taught me to sing it about my girlfriend, but we moved away a year later, and I have since plaintively sung it on Saturday nights while posting on lonely hearts basketball boards. One time on a field trip in a schoolbus, my 6th grade class sang "99 Bottles of Beer on the Wall," so I sang "My Bonnie Lies Over the Ocean," and the little demons ridiculed me all year for it.
Ah, Ernie Ford. "Bless your little pea-picking heart !" He had a show about the same time as Ernie Kovacs, who had a much funnier, out of control moustache, before the latter's mysterious death. The political implication of "16 Tons" was never talked about, just like today's hits. You had to read between the lines. I only noticed it later when I got old enough, and later still I read that the CPUSA had liked the song in the 50s.

that reminds me of one of my all time favorite Simpsons moments. "In the Garden of Eden, by I. Ron Butterfly" (as seen here : ) But here's another one of my favs.
I always like listening to some Arlo Guthrie when on the road. For some reason, this thread made me think of this video. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=NvXMU0zc1jA"]http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=NvXMU0zc1jA
