Dang. Carwin got heavy hands. I believe he has enough power behind those fists to KO Brock.... Geezus!

Dunno what Frank Mir's strategy was tonight but it sucked. Carwin is a powerhouse... but we knew that.

GSP underwhelmed. He tried to finish but he also fought safe. Can't help but be a little disappointed. To finish a fight sometimes you have to take risks and he didn't seem up to that.

Hamman/Wallace was a war. Great fight.

Diaz looked good at 170 but Markham isn't great.

    Toquinho's footlock was nasty.

The rest of it was bleh.

    Carwin by TKO, first round.

LOL, I had Mir by submission. The fight was pretty similar to Lesnar/Mir 2.

    Lesnar/Carwin will be a dogfight.

In GSP's defence, Hardy did nothing but roll into a ball and defend for that whole fight. Even when Georges fell off him once or twice not even a second ticked by and GSP had position again. I'm curious to see the fight stats because I think GSP outstruck him pretty badly as well but that was such a minor part of the fight as to be dismissed.

Good god Carwin's got power. Both weighed in at 265 but Carwin's natural strength was a huge advantage. He easily pinned Mir against the cage and had his way with him. Mir did little to stop it. Lesnar still looked a lot bigger when he and Carwin were face to face after the fight, but god damn Carwin has a hell of a lot of power. Very impressive.

I smell Mir-Big Nog II coming on.

Hardy impressed me despite the loss. Tough bastard but very technically inferior to GSP (despite the fact that he looked a lot bigger).

GSP could've had hardy's arm broken twice.. but GSP being himself, did not do that.
    good sportmanship or chicken?

I see that Palhares is catching heat in some quarters. The feeling is he held the leg way too long after his opponent tapped, and injured him just for spite. Continuing to crank the leg after the guy is clearly trying to tap does seem like a douche move.

man oh man is Carwin impressive. Mir was outwrestled and then pounded. MIr needs to train with GSP and improve his grappling cause he's toast vs any big man who can control him.

GSP IMO did play it safe. I've seen him get that kind of control before and start raining bombs with his GnP. He's also very hesitant to trade standing up too. He appears to be fighting not to lose rather than to win as of late. Especially if it's vs someone who won't challenge him like say BJ Penn would. That fight should not have gone more than 2 rounds if St.Pierre fights to win.

With Dan Henderson gone, can we start calling Fitch Decision Jon?

and can we start calling Don Margliotta, 'The Stand-up Don'?? good golly he was standing up some active situations last night.

did anyone else get the feeling St.Pierre wanted to win via submission and only via submission? I went to watch an MMA fight and a grappling match occurred.

Got that feeling as well, especially in the later stages of the kimura where he was looking around like 'do I do it?'

He went overboard for sure. The ref couldn't pull him off.

Yes, Jon Fitch is Decision Jon. And Big Dan is the worst ref in the pros. He is consistently atrocious.

Hardy had surprisingly good ground defence especially against strikes. GSP couldn't land much and focused on subs instead. He had a lot of sub attempts but I thought he should've gone for chokes because clearly Hardy wasn't going to tap out.

when I watched the fight I got the feeling that GSP really wanted to go for the armbar, in some cases he could of went for a choke but was like "nah, I want the armbar" I thought it was weird. Overall, I am happy that Carwin and GSP won. As an aside, I went to watch a UFC event at a bar for the first time, a lot of guys in TapOut/affliction shirts and guys ordering Heinekens, I am assuming thats probably the norm when you watch a ufc at the bar.

^ I can't imagine what the crowd in Jersey must've been like...

I rewatched the GSP/Hardy fight this afternoon. It wasn't nearly as dry as it seemed last night. The show got off to a bad start with a few long fights and I think it made things seem drawn out.

Every round of GSP/Hardy was exciting.

Every round of GSP/Hardy was not exciting. Unless you go into it with the mindset of wanting to see Hardy's sub defense.

Anyone else think Mir looked past Carwin?
