The fact that this has happened twice in the SE area over the course of the last month is extremely strange. That, in and of itself, should eliminate the sonic boon theory. ABM's earthquake boom link actually sounds most probable. I would have immediately thought a meth house exploded if this was an isolated incident, but it's not, and no fire balls were identified. Very strange. Isn't Mt Tabor volcanic? Maybe it's rumbling below? No idea. Super strange, IMO.

I remember back on New Years day, had to of been 1988. We were watching college bowl games in the living room and we heard/felt a huge boom! Shook our house and stuff fell off the shelves, it was crazy! About 5 minutes later, if you looked outside, it looked like it was snowing. It was actually home insulation! My best friend and his older brother came and picked us up and we went looking for what happened. About 25 blocks north of us, there was a giant hole where a house used to be. A guy turned on his gas stove and then went next door and told his neighbors he was gonna blow his house up...... AND FUCKING DID IT! It was surreal!

You think a sonic boom is unlikely (nevermind that flight plans are rather rigid) yet seismic activity is a more likely occurrence?

That was a couple blocks north of Irving park wasn't it? I lived just south of the park and heard about it. I walked over to check out the damage. It was insane.

By the way, this explosion story in SE is strange.

I used to live in Klamath Falls out by the air base; I've heard plenty of sonic booms in my day. This didn't sound like a sonic boom.

Wonder if someone was playing with pipe bomb at Westmoreland... or perhaps Eastmoreland golf coarse. Springwater trail runs through there also.

Yes it was my man. If you go by there today it's the one "new" house in that area. Crazy huh?

That was crazy. I remember the neighbors telling the story of how he contacted them to tell them to get out.

Side note: Did you used to call Irving Park, "Irvington"? I swear I spent the first 15 years of my life calling it "Irvington" without even realizing that was the wrong name. Everybody called it Irvington though.

The story mentions the embankment and low clouds as reasons the sound was amplified eastward...

I knew a guy a long time ago that got very into making pipe bombs for fun...that crap is dangerous...

I don't understand how no tape of the "PDX boom" has surfaced yet. Is it possible that absolutely nobody who was within the "boom range" was videotaping something during the alleged explosion? I'm starting to think that it never actually happened, that it was all some mass hypnosis experiment, where people were somehow subliminally convinced that they would hear an explosion at that time, even though it didn't really exist. This pipe bomb story is just a cover up.

LMAO!!! So how did the police find a large plastic pipe bomb if it had already blown up?

Seriously, there is no way in hell that was a pipe bomb. For a pipe bomb blast to have been heard that far away it would have left a lot of damage and a pretty big hole in the ground.
