ESPN - The Broncos and Javon Walker's agent, Kennard McGuire, are finalizing a five-year extension worth about $40 million that includes $15 million in option bonuses, $10 million due in 2007 and the other $5 million due in '08. Walker will play out the final year of his rookie contract this year plus receive a $1 million roster bonus from the Broncos. "We've got the parameters of an agreement," Shanahan said when the trade was made. "It's basically going to be in that six-year time frame. Obviously, there's no contract being signed but we we've talked and we're fairly close." [READ] The guy when healthy is one of the top recievers in football, with Rod Smith coming to an end soon they need a WR that demands double teams and Ashley Lelie is a complete bust. Who knows how Walker plays coming off his knee injury. He's 27 years old.
Walker is definately a nice posssesion reciever, he will be a great target, but I still have no clue why they draft Jay Cutler when Plummer in his 20s, coming off a season where he only threw 2 or 3 INTs, after the trade deadline.
Jake Plummer is 31 years old and the Broncos really like Cutler and they felt he was a huge steal for them.
Good signing, but it should be interesting to see what they do with Ashley Lelie now, being as he wants to be the primary option or wants out. He'll likely be gone before the start of the season, because there's no way he's going to settle for being the third option now with his attitude. He should just shut his mouth though, he's not nearly good enough to be a number one option in this league. He's a 2-3 tops.
