Anyone seen it? Man, what a fantastic, poignant tribute to them personally, and their historic rivalry. If you get a chance to watch it, do.
Bird is one old son-of-a-bitch. But I got respect the man for his skills, toughness and that he doesn't try to be anybody but himself.
The book was great too. What you really see by the end of the show is how close they became. The whole thing was fantastic. I lived in LA in the 80s and loved that Laker team, and as such, it was hard to appreciate Bird. He's one of the best ever.
I was more focused on Magic as well. I have a completely different appreciation for Bird now. I used to think he was a great player but a dick. Now I realize it was just him being ultra competitive. He didn't want to hang out with the opposition, didn't want to be buddies with the opposition, heck he wouldn't give the opposition the time of day because, they were the opposition . . . and he all he cares about is beating them. I can a appreciate a player as intense about winning as that.
