So I've been checking out zoom lenses recently.

I've been going between the 55-200mm VR from Nikon and the 70-300 AF without VR. Anyone have a zoom lens without VR?

What lenses do you guys have?

None. I looked at lenses and they are too expensive for me. =)

Yup. If you are gonna splurge, that's the best all around lens to get. I got the 70-300mm and it is very nice, but the VR is a sweet function to have.

I've borrowed the 55-200($210) and it is nice. I'd love to have a little more reach with the 300 if the non VR lenses are decent enough. $500(VR) vs $150(no VR)

Got a Nikon D80. The results are decent but long range shots without a tripod are usually hit or miss. The VR is definitely worth it.

The thing with the 70-200mm VR lens is that it is an all-around lens, but not the best for anything in particular. If you are not into changing lenses, that would probably be the best investment.

for anyone else confused, I had to look up that VR means vibration reduction.

Think you mean the 55-200mm vr.
The 70-200mm VR is a $2200 lens. Great lens.

Yup, my bad. I was mixed up between the 70-300 & the 55-200.

You should check out dpreview.com for the forums. They've got a lot of hardcore & professional photographers in there talkin shop. And no, DP stands for 'digital photography' and not DP as in porn. Get your head out of the gutter!
