Has anybody noticed the same trend I've noticed for, say, the past two years? PGs are having career nights against us. Why??? Because of the most overrated defender in the league, Derek Fisher. Seriously, this guy can't stick ANYBODY. I look at the box scores, he scores, maybe, 6 points (mostly from three pointers) and the other PG scores 39. How the hell are we gonna guard the Chauncey Billups and the Mo Williams with this guy? IDK I feel if we lose, it is gonna be in great part b/c of him. I said it in the past, and I'm going to say it again, the guy can't play defense. He uses his hands, not his feet, and then wonders why he always gets called for reach ins. Absolutely terrible. If only we got Hinrich......
Well...seeing as how Mo Williams is a spot shooter, I have no worry about DFish guarding him. I'm more worried about meeting up with the Jazz or Celtics or Nuggets...ya know, teams with PGs that can actually go to the rim.
When his salary expires, I hope to GOD we don't resign him. Hey, maybe he's the next Lakers head coach?? Offer him an assistant coaching job, and get a REAL PG.
Yeah, but Shannon hasn't been playing much better. And hahah @ Farmar starting...That is the last thing his ego needs. The fact is that we need to address our PG situation in the off-season. Farmar blows, Shannon isn't ready to start and Fisher blows, too.
Couldn't agree more. Seriously, CAREER nights for any point guard who plays the Lakers. Absolutely disgusting.
I suspect the Lakers and Blazers will have a minor bidding war this summer for the services of Steve Blake. He's basically a younger version of Derek Fisher. Maybe not as good of a defender as Fisher was when he was 29, but every bit the three point shooter and team-first guy. By "minor bidding war," I mean of the $2-4 mil/year variety, with the winner likely being the team who offers more years. You'll still get pasted by fast point guards--seems to be a theme of practically every Phil Jackson team. But it won't be quite as bad, and hey, it's not like Phil Jackson hasn't been able to make it work in the past.
Steve Blake would be fine, he fits into the mold of a "Phil Jackson point guard" perfectly. Anybody at this point, would be an upgrade over Fish/Farmar.
Lol @ Shannon playing D. He used to. All 3 of our PG's get torched by opposing PG's now. It is so pathetic. How is it possible that the 2nd best team in the league has the worst PG rotation?
Yeah Shannon has been disappointing lately. I think some of his struggles (offensively at least) can be attributed to his injured finger. He hasn't been the same since the finger injury. Defensively, he hasn't lived up to my expectations.
He hasn't been the same since the all-star break, like James Worthy recently noted. The kid thinks he is an all-star PG now and doesn't attack the rim anymore, even pre-injury. Get back to your roots, Shanwow.
I truly feel like a dumbass. HAHA I was stressed at the time with his play. But, come playoff time, I said "this is were Fish needs to prove himself to the fans." He exceeded my expectations. Fish BETTER be on my team next season. Won't have it any other way.
