An interesting thought. Exactly how many Republicans voted for the health care bill again? Now, how many Democrats voted against it? I think the divide is wider on the left side of the spectrum than it is on the right.
Well that was before it passed, now they have zero power. The leadership said vote with us, we will beat this. They were wrong. Now according to several sources of remorse over not negotiating at all. Now it is a total loss, a major defeat. The polls are now showing people are happy that the bill has passed, 50% of indys in fact. That November hope for the pubs got a little dimmer when the bill passed. Now they are forced to run against actual laws that most people will like. I think the idea of telling voters that you want to take away the lift on the lifetime cap, insuring their children to 27, and removing the doughnut whole is going to be tough.
The Constitution was set up to ensure the tyrrany of the majority was not permanent. The opposition to this bill is only beginning. Nope. Given the majorities in both houses of Congress as well as the White House, there was never any hope of defeating it, only minimizing its damage. I wonder how you feel about the will of the people of Massachusetts who voted specifically against this bill, yet never were given the opportunity to have their duly elected senator to vote on it, while FIVE appointed senators (Kirk, Gillebrand, Bennet, Kaufman and Burris) who were never elected were allowed to vote in favor of the legislation. Does that sound like a representative democracy to you? I've read one "[source] of remorse". If there's remorse, it's on the Democratic side of the aisle, who regret what the pushing through of the process will do to the Republic as well as the party. As for the popular portions of the bill, I never said the entire bill was terrible, just the vast majority of it. Remember, the opponents of this bill acknowledged there were parts of our health care system that needed to be fixed, but that we should keep the good parts and throw out the bad parts. But the Democrats decided they were going to load this thing up with all the crap they could. Now, everyone will have to live with the consequences--fewer health care professionals, higher premiums, higher taxes, less choice and less coverage. You tell me how that works for you.
