Is anyone else watching this to the biittersweet end? What a great show, though it is not nearly as good now as seasons 1 and 2 with the hatch, etc. That said, it is still one of the great shows ever.

I don't see how they tie up so many loose strings, and if anyone ever told me that the show was actually about two "Gods" battling over free will and good/evil I doubt I would have watched, but it still works.

I would rather watch that than a stock castaway show, and there's a lot more going on than just gods battling over free will. all we know at this point is the island itself is a construct designed to contain a force apparently capable of destroying everything (man in black), and it has a guardian (jacob) who's apparently looking for a candidate to replace himself. the whole backstory, nature of, and exact motives of the island's creators/jacob/MiB have yet to be fully revealed.

I think even the alternate timeline, which seems pretty ho hum so far on the surface, will end up being essential - particularly considering how much they are hinting at the two timelines bleeding into/affecting each other.

it's already the greatest TV drama series of all time IMO

Where were you 2 when I started my "Final Season of LOST" thread. It is so well written. They do have a lot of loose ends to tie up, but it has been great this year getting a lot of questions answered.

Yeah LOST my favorite TV show of all time! I'm sad to see it end but it looks to be a great ending.

Wow. With that kind of endorsement, this is clearly a show that I must start watching.

First present my wife bought for me was the season 1 DVD set. If it had not been for LOST being something the wife and I can watch together, I would have given up before the end of season 3. Too many characters were introduced that did nothing for the story that were built up, then promptly killed. Boone, Shannon, Eko, and the diamond thiefs all could have been written out of the story. Charlie, Walt, Michael, and Ana Lucia are also built up heavily, but have nothing to do with the show/could have been done without.

Even at the end of season six, we have no idea which people are dead or might be someone else. With all of the time flashes, we have no idea where alot of the flashbacks from previous seasons were from. It is also pretty annoying how a character acts one way, they show a flashback there they act differently, then amazingly in present time they act like they did in the flashback.

There would have been alot of people, including myself, that would have given up last year if it had not been promised that season six would be the last. With so many questions left unanswered, I am not hopeful there is going to be a grand finale that answers even part of them.

I have to agree that the time warps from last year got out of hand and far too confusing. Indeed, it is difficult even now to follow the whole story, i.e., when was the last time Jin and Sun saw each other? Oh, rtight, 3 years ago before Jin ended up in 1977 but is now back.

But I have resigned myself to the fact that we wont get a lot of answers, and that's mostly OK. It has been the journey of watching these characters grow and change that has been the best part of the show.

I've never watched an episode of the show...did it do a pretty good job of summarizing?

Well, it sort of summarizes the plot. But the show really isn't about plot as much as it is about character development, IMO. Kate, Sawyer, Sayid, Jin, Hurley, Locke, Ben--there are just some really interesting characters that make the show really enjoyable even if you don't care much for all the sci fi stuff.

They did a huge time travel thing last season. I absolutely hate time travel plots in movies/tv. It always gets needlessly confusing, overly focused on "maintaining the timeline", etc. This was no exception. The interesting thing to me, though, was how much I enjoyed those episodes in spite of myself. They'd suckered me so well into liking the characters that I put up with it.

If you really want to know if you'll like the series, just watch the first episode or two. If you don't like it then, you won't like the rest of it.

On a side note, Claire (blonde pregnant chick)--who isn't featured in many episodes--goes through about the most radical personality change you can imagine in a series. From hot pregnant chick, to MILF dating Driveshaft lead singer, to insane feral Rambo chick. Pretty stunning transformation, given that she probably only gets about 100 minutes of on-screen time over all the years.

I haven't watched LOST for a whole season and that actually helped me catch up. Not sure if it is helpful if you haven't seen one episode.

This actually makes me interested in the final season. Woot.

Last night's episode - What They died For - was very satisfying. Loose ends are getting tied up, the reason for many things is being revealed, it remains poignant, and still damn exciting.

Is Ben the best villain ever or what? I doubt he is really Smokey's flunkie though.
