Who would you take over Batum (or: is there a better fit for this future Blazer team)

    You mention needing his defense, but then say you'd take Jamison, playing the 3, over Nic?

    Yes, the fit is worse but Jamison is such a large upgrade in talent I believe you have to do it.

    Nic is one of those rare players like Gerald Wallace that can help a team and is very valuable WITHOUT running plays for them. The majority of the league have to score to help their teams. Nic does so many little things that sometimes go unnoticed. That is why he fits so well with Brandon and LA out there.

    Man, that is just SWEET. A guy who can shoot the lights out AND play great D?? Isn't that what every team in the NBA wants?

    He also locked up Dirk on the last 3 pocessions during our win in Dallas and stopped CP3 on one of the last pocessions of our win down there.

    We haven't had a player like him in years.

    One night he's guarding Chris Paul in the fourth quarter.

    The next night's he's on Dirk late in the game.

    How many players in the league can realistically cover 4 positions like that? And not just a one quick possession type of thing, but a legitimate I can see us putting Batum on someone like Paul for an entire game, and Dirk, as well as any 2s and 3s.

    His length and footspeed is what's amazing! He said he grew up playing soccer like Hakeem! Had to of helped! Don't get me wrong, Mello schooled him a few times, but that is just part of the process of gaining experiences and learning from them. He told me once that LeBron was the only player he felt he couldn't stop. Not bad!

    Yeah Melo schooled him alright. He ran into Nico, flailed his arms around like a spastic and flopped around like a fish until the refs bit. Pathetic if you ask me.

    As far as who I'd take over Batum, it's a pretty short list. Just because a guy might have all-star talent doesn't mean he's a better fit for the team, or a better overall player for that matter. Nico does so much and has so much potential. And we already know he fits in. You have to look at the risk factor when you try to "upgrade" and it would take a lot to get me to trade Nico.

    If Batum can be a consistent offensive threat he is going to be a very very special player. Until then he is "just" a special player and will have games where he breaks out offensively. I love this kid though. Can't imagine him anywhere else.

    Agreed. I'm still in shock at how much his shooting has improved from last year. He seems like a totally different player to me.

    Melo and LeBron are just too strong for him at this stage of his career - and honestly, if the refs were a bit less star-struck on Melo - the game would have been a lot closer - but overall - Nic is great, Kid is a joy to watch when he is gliding around the court and always seems to be in control on the offense and the defense.

    Once he starts doing a bit more of the Travis Outlaw thing on offense (and we have seen that he can put the ball on the floor and he can elevate from a dribble to knock down a jumper) - he is going to be a nightmare for opposing teams.

    There are 3 small-forwards you would take over him, imho - LeBron, Melo, Durant. That's it. Not Granger, not Wallace, not Deng - non of those guys. If you have one year to win a title and do not care what happens after - you got for Paul Pierce over him as well - but for the Blazers - these are the only 3 you trade him for.
