Sacramento Bee - In what has been rumored for many months now in Sacramento, the Rick Adelman era is now over after eight seasons at the helm for the Kings. Adelman compiled 395-229 record in his time in Sacramento while leading the team to playoff appearances in each of his seasons in Sacramento. Source have told the Sacramento Bee that GM Geoff Petrie will make an official annoucment at 3:00 PM Pacific.I saw this comming. But I do think this might have been a mistake. He was doing a great job with that team once he got Artest added to the roster. Oh well.
He was good overall, but the Kings weren't going anywhere with him. Unfair, but that's how the cookie crumbles.
And he's such a good coach, he actually put Sacramento on the map during the early 2000's, where the Kings were at their best. It's a shame that he's leaving, but it was probably expected.
Yeah the Kings from the early 2000's were a top 4 team in the NBA. I mean you had Webber in All-Star form, Bibby on the rise and playing great, Peja having great years, Vlade, Doug Christie (one of the most underrated players of this era), young Hedo, young Gerald Wallace. Even Keyon Clark when he was in the league was okay, and I loved Olden Polynice for some reason. That team went to the WCF too. Adleman is a good coach.If Danny Ainge is thinking about letting Doc go, I wouldn't complain if Adleman came to Boston. The only thing that would concern me would be his defensive tacticts (he simply doesn't seem interested in teaching it). But he brings out the best in his players on the offensive end and plays the right people at the right time for the most part.
The coach always gets blamed when a team does poorly, I doubt the replacement will be better than he was.
Maybe a candidate for Sam Mitchell's job.Anyway, Ron Artest wont be very happy about this. I wonder who the Kings will get?
I dont think they can get a better coach, but I think its time for him to go. They have had plenty of chances to get to the big game, but have always choked and lost. If he's fired, he'll have a new job the next week. I think we can all agree that this team isnt an elite team anymore so its not like they are only 1 player away from a championship. I'm not really sure if its a mistake, he'll have another team very fast. Kings wont get a better coach though in my opinion.
I can't say this is surprizing, it's been long rumored. The only thing funny about this is Artest was stated after their lost he would give up his contract to sign Adelman and Bonzi. Now look, Adelman is gone. Maybe Artest should shut up?
dammit our prized offense is gone. i only hope we get a good coach. its not worth it if we get a guy like maurice cheeks.
Stupid move, he's a good coach who just had a bad season and was doing well with Artest and Bonzi. This is going to come back to hurt them unless they get a very, very good coach. Hmmm, I hope they don't go after Iavaroni...

If Horry didn't hit that shot in game 4, who knows? Sacramento probably would have won the series.
The kings don't have the big men that pass well that is needed to run the Princeton Offense. They seriously had to alter that system because of Kenny Thomas and Abdur-Rahim who are neither good passers.
The Sacremento Kings would have at least one championship ring around their fingers if it wasn't for Robert Horry, (I love being a Lakers fan) and Rick Adleman was a great coach since 2001-2005. This year he wasn't as good, and I think his coaching plan was failing as the core of the Kings are changing. Therefore, the move is sad, but its smart.
I went through this last year when the Timberwolves fired long time successful coach Flip Saunders because the team wasn't getting it done. It is difficult to see a coach that you have known and grown to love over the course of a decade or so leave so suddenly. In case of the Timberwolves, they signed a rookie head coach who has struggled in his first season as head coach. If I am a Kings fan I'm hoping that they don't sign a rookie head coach. The growing pains are frustrating, to say the least.
If the Rockets fire Jeff Van Gundy and pick up Rick Adleman, maybe the Kings can get Jeff. It's almost like a fire and sign. Like a sign and trade. lol
He did a fine job with taking the Kings to the playoffs. Beating the Spurs twice was pretty impressive and the team started playing like a true team towards the end of their season.

Van Gundy would finally give Sacramento some defensive mind (Artest wouldn't like him though, those two would go at it all the time) and Houston just needs freedom (and obviously a healthy roster). That would be interesting, but highly unlikely.
I thought he did a good job, it wasn't like he was going to win titles with that team. Oh well, coaches get fired for managements mistakes, it's just the way it goes.
I think a team like Utah when Jerry Sloan retires and maybe the Sonics could use a coach like Adelman, he has been to the finals twice and he is a winner.
