Hp Slate would be my choice if they can get it to a similar price point... but I am not sure they can. I just like being able to run whatever I like... not what they give you in the app store. Flash support too among other things.
Google I think does make real nice OS... though they don't have to support the array of hardward MS does. Apple controls it just so they can sell most of the add on devices. In their favor this allows you to get into the device for cheaper than someone else may offer the same thing at first... but damn... replace the device to replace the battery? I had one of those IPod pedometers that you put in your shoe that tracks how far you run... after about 500 miles the battery went dead... but can you replace it? No! You have to sprint $19 for another one. I just got tired of crap like that from Apple. BTW... Google's browser Chrome is very secure.... I believe no one has hacked their browser yet because of the way they do sandboxing. Fast and secure... very good combo.
There was something I saw or read in the last few days from someone waiting in line who loosely quoted said something like "I don't know what it does... but I am sure I am going to like it". Funny. That is a lot of money to drop on something that you don't even know you have a use for. =) I thought about this more last night... and there are very few places I go where I wouldn't have a real computer to do everything an IPad or Slate computer would... maybe it would replace the paper on the kitchen table sometimes... last night while watching the Mariner's game it would have been nice to have a device with mobile TV so I could finish watching the game while getting ready for bed. I know a lot of the younger kids are more mobile and they are out and about more where it might get more use... but it isn't like you can use it at a bar while waiting for a friend to show up and stick it in your pocket. If you had a purse maybe... but then again I am not sure I want to walk around with that expensive of a device while drinking. Could read on Max heading to Blazer game but then what do you do with it when you get there?
I am also one of those people who likes to be different and have things or gadgets that nobody else has. I love my Macbook, iPod and I did love the iPhone. I had mine fixed so it would work with T-mobile. It made the text message noise once and 6 other guys at my table all pulled their iPhones out. I said, that was it! I hate being part of the crowd I guess. I usually find some cool phone from Europe or Japan online that works with T-Mobile and get that. Here is one of my favs I've ever had.............. http://www.engadget.com/2005/04/08/way-too-many-pics-of-the-nokia-8801/ Thing weighed a ton and was too cool! You actually see it in a bunch of movies about the future, like iRobot. Still have it.
^^ Weirdo! Just choose a different alert sound for texts etc. Seems like it would be worth it to have an iphone if you are such a Mac fan... since they all work so well together (email, calendar, itunes, mobileme, etc).
I my job involved traveling like "The" I would definitely grab something like IPad. It would be awesome while traveling.
Look how easy it is to use! A 2 year old can use it.
