I was wondering if they would make a change to the lineup. Remember that long topic we had on if Griffin starting against the Spurs is a good idea? I hope the change helps.
San Antonio already made a counter attack with Horry starting instead of Nazr and going small a lot of the game which was a brilliant move by Popovich but no way Terry can guard Parker. It also hurts Terry's offense to guard Parker because of how hard he works on defense. Terry might actually be better off guarding Manu than Parker. That says how quick Parker is.
This was a big change for the Mavs. Harris cam up big and was a component of the 22 point stomping that the Spurs got.
The move payed off, in a big result. Harris got in the lane and made easy buckets the whole game, like stealing candy from a baby. This was something Mavs lacked in game 1. Lets just hope Harris can carry out like this the rest of the series. His easy points and getting to the free throw line will help quite a bit
Harris was good, but the thing I think the whole TEAM brought was faster-pacing offense, even though Dirk sucked.

If your only looking at stats, your wrong. Yes, he only scored 21 points, but that was on only 11 shots. Thats 63.6% from the field. One thing that wont show up in the box score is how many double and triple teams he got. EVERY time he got it on the block they would double. Harris, Terry, Daniels, Howard, etc also has an easier time driving the ball because Bowen couldnt sag off of Dirk to help clog the lane. Dirk by no means sucked. If you watch the film, you could actually argue that he dominated it. Everytime he touched it he was double and triple teamed. Thats how other players got open shots.
Plus his defense was great last night...that's something else that won't show up...and he's seeing the court well, even over Bruce Bowen.
<div class='quotetop'>QUOTE </div><div class='quotemain'>even though Dirk sucked</div>Without Dirks 21 points Mavs would have been in a strugle to keep a lead ahead of the Spurs. He came close to having a double double also.Your'e pathetic. I was nice not having you around for awhile. I thought your Al Queda training would last atleast a few more months
Yeah, Dirk's not going to get 30 plus a game, he might, for a game or two, but he's not going to average 30 plus for the series. But the fact that he's still getting 20 plus, playing good defense, passing the ball pretty well, and getting rebounds helps out more than him scoring 30 points anyways. What we have to have is balanced contributions fro the rest of the series.
It seems like the mavs are better when Josh Howard is the leading scorer. Maybe Dirk is best as a second option. If the spurs continue to put Bowen on Dirk this might actually fit into the mavs way of thinking of letting Howard being the leading scorer.
Dirk said it himself, he wouldnt score 30 a game but he needed to be more efficient on offense. That is what he did last night he made 7-11 shots. He was efficient in the sense that he hit good timely shots that helped stop the spurs' runs. Thats what he needs to do for the rest of the series, just be efficient enough in every aspect of his game to help the mavs win.
How is 21 points and 10 boards bad?Tim Duncan averaged that a few seasons and they say he is a beast!Dirk played a great game got the ball where it needed and played GREAT defense.<div class='quotetop'>QUOTE (Lazy @ May 10 2006, 05:42 PM) <{POST_SNAPBACK}></div><div class='quotemain'>Without Dirks 21 points Mavs would have been in a strugle to keep a lead ahead of the Spurs. This situation is exactly like when Fin was here. When Fin scored over 20+ with Dirk, we were undefeated. Did you consider Fin a better option then Dirk at that point? I'm guessing no. It's about matchups but no way is Howard our first option.

If teams force Dirk to beat them than he must score 30+ points.
I didn't exactly say Dirk SUCKED, I was just saying that to start off some drama .I was leaning more towards Dirk not getting too much touches, but throughout the night, he was a SUPER defensive player.
