I would actually love the hire. Seems like a hell of a young coach. Unless he wants his money though, I see no reason why he would leave Butler. http://www.oregonlive.com/sports/or...f/2010/04/canzano_oregons_search_for_a_b.html
I would agree. However, he probably makes $300-400K at Butler, and UO can offer 3-4X that easily. Also, UO may be a stepping stone for this young coach to something even better.
Well done. Curious, as an outsider looking in, would Porter be a better splash for recruiting? If you are an Oregonian, who wouldn't want to play for Terry Porter? Stevens is the better coach, but even I as a Beaver fan would like to see the Ducks do well under Porter. Either way, could you guys hire someone already so I don't have to hear any more stories about who the next Ducks coach is going to be. Thanks.
I spoke with an alumni who works in the UO athletic dept and he tells me we have spoken with several agents for various coaches. I am also told the only legitimate offer we made was to Mark Few, but he wanted much more than we were willing to pay him- in other words, he didn't want to change jobs. People like Porter and Carlissimo won't even be contacted. Personally, I think the Butler coach would really want the job. Yeah, he has a good team for next year, but at some point in time that little school will run out of luck and once they have a couple of down seasons they'll be back as #15 or 16 seeds again... and he'll continue to make his $300-400K per season. Now, maybe that's fine for him as he can probably coach there as long as he wants to and enjoy a long and somewhat successful career. But if he wants to coach at a prestigious college, he will have to use a school like Oregon as a stepping stone. And we have good talent that will be mostly juniors next season so he can mold them as he wants. He will earn well over $1 million per season, have a new arena, a conference that gets more respect than his.... it's a taylor made job.
Being reported he turned us down. http://blog.oregonlive.com/behindducksbeat/2010/04/oregon_basketball_did_brad_ste.html
Ducks thought they would have a coach signed before the final four started. Taking this long to find a coach can not be a good thing for Oregon basketball right now.
to the victors go the spoils. I'd imagine he, his family and the Butler fanbase are all thrilled. STOMP
Not bad. He'll only be 24 when his contract expires. Then he'll really be able to make the big caish.
also mike rice jr resigned with robert morris, but i dont know if he was on the ducks list of candidates
Hello. I'm an unrealistic optimist. Tom Izzo will be the Ducks next basketball coach. God bless and good night.
