Seems like the nuggets blew up in denver because officials tonight. I think the NBA does not want the spurs in eighth place. Or maybe they just went crazy. But it seems ironic that the spurs win on the second of a back to back in denver. We have to beat the lakers. Oh by the way of course kobe is playing against us.
I didn't see the game, but the game (in Denver) featured 20 Spurs fouls vs 29 fouls + 4 Techs for the Nuggets ...sounds a lot like last night STOMP
I don't know Maybe cause it's our city's only team? I really notice what a farce it is at the beginning of every season after just watching a ton of baseball, football, even hockey and soccer matches. No other sport's officials have so much say in their games. It's very pronounced at the beginning of each season after watching sports where you can go the entire game any only remember maybe 1 or 2 iffy calls. As it wears on I guess we get used to it until something like last night happens. It's really turned me off over the years. Used to love the NBA. I don't watch it now unless Portland is involved.
i didn't watch the game but is it really that hard to imagine a team with kenyon martion, jr smith, and carmelo blowing up over disagreements with officials(especially when their coach is gone)?
This is the time of year where we are all reminded how freaking stupid we are to get so wrapped up in the nba...especially the blazers. It's a joke...but for some reason I just keep watching. So predictable. So pathetic. Can we do march madness over again instead?
Out and out rigged? No. It's no WWF. Is it controlled and influenced to try to get favorable outcomes for the league? I have little doubt. There is a reason why ratings are so low compared to the early 2000, never mind the fact that they fell off tremendously from the Bulls era (to be expected) but also were lower than the Rocket's championship runs. So many friends and relatives of mine that used to love the NBA tell me they don't watch it for one main reason: The Refs control the game. It's plain as day and I agree with some of the other posters, we just get used to it. I just wonder when Stern is going to realize that he's killing the game.
It's about marketing. If certain teams and certain players "get" an advantage, then it puts money in the league's pockets. That extra money trickles down to the refs, the teams and the players. If that creates a small advantage for certain teams on the court to the detriment of the others, so be it.
I've always maintained that the NBA refs should be supplied and managed by an outside entity. It almost become a conflict of interest with Stern overlooking things.
I think power should be taken away from the referees, and that starts with changing the "fouling out" rule. It's an idea that is endorsed by a number of premier coaches in the NBA.
