I think we can offer him an extension now if we wanted to. Someone correct me if I'm wrong. Matching an offer is only for restricted free agents. We can, however, go over the salary cap to re-sign him.
No, I think the fact that he brought him to Portland in exchange for some spare parts should be reason enough to give him praise.
We can offer more years (irrelevant), but can offer a higher escalation (a real benefit). Teams over the cap can only offer the MLE. We can offer up to the max. What having Bird Rights on a player means is that you can offer more money than any other team.
yah but the reason we have played so well is because of camby. therefore if he leaves.... we resort back to the average blazers meaning it was a 2 month rental and now cambys on the thunder
There are a lot of teams that are way under the cap that will want him, to really give us any advantage money wise. The Bird rights basically give us the same opportunity as those who have all the room. The Clippers are talking big like they want him back. New York too. I bet a 3 year deal is what it will take, and that is risky at his age. 21 million for 3 years vs 16 for 2 years? What do you all think?
Blake and Outlaw were leaving anyhow. If OKC wants to give Camby a big contract, I'd let them do it. They'll have a hard enough time resigning all of their young players, let alone paying a 40 year-old Camby. And that's before the possibility of a hard cap in the new CBA.
I'd let Camby go for a 3 year deal. I'd probably resign him for the 2 year deal, and try to add on a team option in year 3 just in case.
