You watched it--how much time did Collison have to react between when Miller passed the ball, and when he made contact with Aldridge? Less than 1/10 of a second? Do you really think he intended to tackle Aldridge? I don't. I think he intended to prevent the dunk, which is the correct play. The arm wraparound was instinct--hold on to the largest object available while falling. Unfortunate, yes, but not stupid.
Apparently, Aldridge's momentum must have pulled the helpless Collison to the floor. I guess the next step is a league memo condemning the refs for missing the call, since clearly it should have been a Flagrant 1 on Aldridge.
More comparable would be him unintentionally rear-ending the van, pushing both it and his own car onto the tracks, and then continuing to lay on the accelerator to get both his car and the van out of the way. He caused the problem, but he acted in a manner which prevented it from being a worst-case scenario. Cut him some slack.
The tackle was also better than Collison clubbing the back of LA's head with a chair, Collison going Last Boy Scout on LA and putting a cap literally in his ass, or even Collison trying to felch LA as he was going up for the lay-up. What the fuck?
Yes. LA would have run into the base of the basket even without Collison tackling him from behind. The tackle had nothing to do with it. It was LA's own momentum. Fucking brilliant, because every time I've seen LA dunk, he flails into the basket pad afterward. LA is just lucky that Collison was there to cushion his fall on this occasion. If anything, LA should have received the Flagrant for falling on Collison, who was merely trying to save LA from injuring himself due to his own momentum.
