How good will Al Jefferson get to? I don't see him being top 5, but it's possible that he could be about top twelve in my opinion. I don't expect that much out of him, but I do think he can be a solid contributer.16 ppg, 8 rpg as a career average.
Well, I hate setting huge expectations on rookies right away, especially the ones that come straight from high school. But Big Al has a lot of potential. We already know that if given minutes, he can be a good low post scoring option already. He has an unbelievable post game. But he needs to work on his defense and he needs to work harder, and also get into a little bit better shape. People call this a dissapointing season for Al. I don'y, I think he actually improved a lot, especially on the "little things" like taking charges, setting screens, and even passing out of the double team. But as far as potential goes, he could be a star in the post. If he works hard, tapes his ankles, and listens to what the coaches tell him, there is no doubt he's gunna become a very valuable player in this league. But it will take time. I say we won't have much of an idea of how good he will be until he's in his 4th or 5th year. But thank you very much for posting this because the Celtics message boards are dead in the offseason.
I don't see him averaging 16 and 8 for his career, I'd be happy with double digit points, 7 rebounds a night and some solid defense though.
i think he had high potential, but then when they poured those "great expectations" on him is squandered his potential. now instead of high potential i think he has average potential. but he performs very well when given the minutes.i think he had high potential, but then when they poured those "great expectations" on him is squandered his potential. now instead of high potential i think he has average potential. but he performs very well when given the minutes.

AL J looked incredible in his first season, he would just come off the bench randomly and have some really impressive games as a 19 year old right out of high school. This year he had some good games as well but his injuries scare me. He played in 59 games and never really made a full recovery from any of his injuries. I hope that was just a freak thing and he can rebound from that. He's got incredible hands and some nice low post moves, he's also a lot tougher than he looks underneath. I hope he stays healthy because I do think he could be a potential double-double machine.
Al is an interesting case to me. He's got all the potential in the world to be a dominant low post player, BUT, because hes so bad on the defensive end I dont see him being here past this offseason for some reason. His lateral speed is shot, and one on one in the post he gets beat more often than not. I see Ainge packaging him away in a deal where he gets a Jermaine O'Neal/Kevin Garnett type of player along with LaFrentz and a first rounder.
He sure didnt play like most of us were expecting him to in his second season, but I think he'll be a 18-8 type of guy at full potential.
