Do you think their is that big of a gap between players in the 1950's and 1960's or do you think their would be little difference? Athleticly is it possible? Guys like Cousy, or Russell...etc...
Yes, easily, just look how good of shooters the NBA use to have and look how bad the NBAa's defense is now
If you was just to take a player from the 70's put him in a time machine, and drop him off now days, there is no way they could hang with the players these days. The players these days can jump higher, run faster, are stronger, and would seriously abuse the players of the 60's and 70's. This is alot because of the technology out today, compared to the technology of the 60's and 70's, it allows the players to be more athletically gifted. I don't believe they had half the workout programs, and machines they have these days, but i wouldn't know i wasn't alive back then. I do know that i have watched them on espn classic play once or twice, and they wouldn't have a chance in todays NBA.
I really don't thinkt hey could. I probably say this out of ignorance considering I've barely seen those old games, but hey, atleast I admit it.Those older guys were all less-athletic, not as big, and not as skill. Back then, a majority of guys were of average build and under 6'9. Now, every team atleast has a 7 footer. Look at Bill Russell. He was a 6'10 black guy with mad athletisicm, so he dominated. Could he honestly do anything against Shaquille O' Neal?If Bill Russell and Wilt Chamberlin were the best that era had to offer, they'd be in trouble. Don't get me wrong, Chamberlin was a big dude, but he was 1/1,000. Guys like Russell wouldn't stand a chance
Honestly, guys like Iverson and Kobe would laugh at the uncoordination of these guys. I mean nowadays people would smash on the 50's/60's stars even just based on pure athleticism. Times have changed. You put same Bob Cousy in the NBA right now (in his prime) then you would have yourself a goofy little white guy that can pass.
Ya. Compare Cousy to Chris Paul. Paul is bigger and stronger. Paul is faster. Paul is a better ballhandler. (God, I don't think I've ever seen Cousy dribble with his left hand) Paul can create his shto better. He can rebound better.
They couldn't compete. Back then there was no concept of team defense, Red Auerbach was considered a great coach and he taught stuff 6th graders learn now, so they wouldn't be as smart about the game.Athletics-Modern day players by a mileSmarts- Modern day players by a mileNo contest
No. Athletically, the players of today would run circles around players from 60's/70's. And defense is way up from those days, the days where Wilt was averaging 40PPG and Big O with triple doubles nightly. Not to mention defense is so much more complex since even the 80's that players from those eras just wouldn't adjust.
