I personally don't know why mixum is on this board, but I'm with others that say if mixum is here to entertain, he defintely doesn't do that well.

Sure he draws reactions and pushes posters buttons (I also can easily see why he gets Blazer fans upset) . . . and he may entertain some, but he is not entertaining many and again if that is his objective, he isn't good at it.

It's not a matter of taking him seriously, I don't. It's that he kills the board. real discussion has become a thing of the past. here is how it goes:

Mixum posts something negative, most likely a bold prediction (Blazers miss playoffs) or something aimed to insult one of the Blazers (Oden is a gimp).

Then there is a hodgepodge of responses aimed at Mixum. Some are insults. Some tell him why he is wrong. Some might even agree with him. Two sides are created and both try and to prove the other side are totally wrong.

What does not happen, are real discussions. Not aimed at one person being right or wrong, but at tackling a subject and discussing views related to the subject. As an example, lets look at the KP situation. Mixum has posted that he thinks Kpee sucks and is getting canned. So now the ongoing conversation has become two separated groups, those that support KP and those that want him tossed. What is sorely missed are real discussions about what it means to be a GM and how well KP fits into that. Basically, Mixum causes this board to be black or white, with no gray scale.

Mixum's posts don't piss me off. But I hate him being here because his type of posts ruin the flow of a good forum.

God, a very nice post. I agree with the main point(s). To me, Mixum lowers the overall quality of the board. The tone of responses that results from his posts is not conducive to better thinking or better quality communication. It is not really about his or anyone's "right to post". It is that the total "enjoyment"/ "utility" /"positive feeling" of the community of participants is reduced by posts like his.

    Hello darkness, my old friend
Lots of people take "cheap shots." I don't think everything he says is entertaining, but I find his basketball-related stuff amusing.

Because I can't universally ban and I'm not even in agreement that being a gimmick poster is the same as being a troll. That said, I'll register my opinion that MIXUM doesn't post seriously. If Denny Crane agrees and believes that that violates the forum's "good intentions" policy, he's free to ban MIXUM. Or if most of the Blazers moderators feel he violates that policy and want to ban him, he can be banned. I'm simply not going to be taking up the cause. If it is important to you, you can lobby moderators/admin via PMs.

Here's what people who feel that way could do: Put MIXUM on Ignore, not send that barrage of responses to him and take him out of the flow. The fact that some posters maintain he's a troll and keep vigorously responding to him causes me to doubt their sincerity. No one who actually believes he's a troll would encourage him by feeding him. Unless you're telling me that such people are stupid, which I refuse to believe.

Did you know that MIXVM equals "2014" in Roman numerals?

I think it's a sign of the impending apocalypse...

Saying 'put him on ignore' does nothing. As I said, his posts don't bother me by what they say. My problem is that those posts derail the forum. If most people ignored him, that would work, but if only a handful ignore him it does nothing.

I am not even saying that he should be ousted, just that he greatly detracts from the forum. My hope is that people who read my responses on the subject decide to just leave Mixum and his threads alone. You don't need to ignore him, just don't get duped into one of his traps.

Also, there are certainly a couple here who feed him over and over. Then, secondary responders post in response to non-Mixum posts in his threads. And then what should have been a quick crap requires an enema.

But to be honest, I think the vast majority of "MIXUM spam" (by him and others responding to him) occurs in threads he creates. Yes, sometimes it leaks into other threads, but my perception is that most of the big car wrecks are his own threads. Which gives you an easy way to bypass most of what you object to: don't click on threads he creates.

That's why I don't agree that he disrupts the forum. If he begins derailing other people's threads quite often, I'd definitely be more amenable to that argument.

It means 2016 the way you're trying to add it up. We get two more years before all heck breaks loose.

It's non-standard syntax, to be sure, but the I to the left of the V makes it 4, not 6. If you think we'll last until 2016 you are drinking the koolaid. SORRY BUT ITS TEH TRUTH.

The funny thing is that he's really not all that enigmatic... Sometimes I play a little game in the morning where I try to predict what the MIX will be negative about that day. I think I'm shooting around .700 so far this season.

Maybe Gramps could start a new forum game along these lines? :ghoti:
